Kashai Dagger

The Kashai is a ceremonial and survivalist dagger crafted from metal through mysterious means and rare wood, which is only found in the desert. Its curved edge is jagged but lethally sharp, using ancient desert-forging techniques known only to the tribe’s metalsmiths. It stands out for its unique pattern designs engraved in the metal, and despite its size, it is both light and strong, making it quite deadly when it comes face-to-face with one in a fight. Yet it is used for more than just a weapon, as its curved edge is ideal for scraping deep into sand or digging around desert shrubs that indicate underground moisture, allowing for the harvest of water. Many camp duties have also involved using it to tan hides and, surprisingly, to cook food by heating it over coals like a pan for searing meat or making flatbread. They hold it as a highly sacred object, having passed it down through generations, with some dating back centuries because of visible wear and tear.

Significance

Among the Maruk tribes, the Kashai dagger is a symbol of cunning and endurance in their hostile environment, despite the odds stacked against them. Each one is unique, through intricate carving, telling stories, or imbuing strength, and is kept by the family that forges it, being passed on from parent to child. Many believe that a sliver of each of their ancestors' spirits who wielded it is imbued into it, granting them courage and wisdom. It is all the more reason that they keep them close to avoid losing them, as to do so will bring shame and exile until it is recovered by the one that lost it. The desert will always claim them in the end, but so long as the Kashai endures its trials, their legacy shall never fade.
