Custodian of The South

Created after Ardania were annexed into the empire following a brutal campaign, the Custodian of the South is a prestigious yet burdensome title. It is bestowed upon the appointed overseer responsible for maintaining order, infrastructure, and allegiance in the volatile southern lands, regions known for their fierce independence and diverse cultures.

Duties

Enforce imperial law and tax collection across the southern territories.   Mediate between fractious local clans, merchant guilds, and imperial authorities.   Oversee reconstruction efforts after the recent conflicts.   Lead the southern garrison forces and organize defenses against border raiders or insurgents.   Serve as the southern court’s chief diplomat to neighboring realms.

Responsibilities

Keeping the south in check and under imperial control

Benefits

Granted a large manor in the capital of the south, with authority over regional governors.   Command of a personal retinue of elite soldiers drawn from both imperial and local recruits.   Right to host and preside over the annual Feast of the Sunfall, a celebration commemorating the empire’s conquest and peace in the south.   Allowed to mint limited coinage bearing the Custodian’s seal to facilitate trade and loyalty.

Accoutrements & Equipment

Badge of Office: The Custodian’s emblem is a golden two-headed eagle, symbolizing balance between old southern traditions and the new imperial order.   Regal Cloak: A cloak of deep crimson embroidered with silver thread, representing blood spilled and unity forged.

Cultural Significance

Due to the lack of imperial influence in the southlands, also known as Aradania, a single office was created to place complete control over the region to manage the newly conquered area.

Notable Holders

Argos Antony Aurelius: Second born son of the Emperor Tiberius Marcus Aurelius and currently holds all power over the entirety of the south through brutality and his imperial lineage.
