History

A Cursed Fate

Ashenford sits at the crossroads of old trade routes, as it rests unpon the old river and the land is fertile, but also cursed by misfortune. Throughout its history, it has been razed, flooded, and abandoned more times than any other town in northern Ardania. Each generation swears to make it stronger, but the scars of past destruction are still visible in its crooked streets and layered foundations.Today, the town is known for its resilience as the Locals have joke about its misfortune, “We do not build walls, we plant roots.” Citizens believe that if Ashenford falls again, they’ll simply rebuild. Yet every time rebuilding has occurred it residents have left omens and “protective charms” hung over doors to avoid losing their homes and businesses should it ever happen again.

Tourism

Various people in the north come to trade here due to its positiono in the Old River of the Twins were goods can head south or north depending on where the merchants want to go.

The First Settlement

Timberborn (Age of Bannerlords): Founded for its rich soil and access to the river. Destroyed during a dynastic war; only the wooden palisades and some burned beams remain beneath the modern streets.

Second Settlement

Stone Village: Rebuilt with local stone to withstand raids. A century later, a flood destroyed much of it; the ruins of this stone town form the cellars and foundations of current houses.

Third Settlement

Market Town: Merchants revived the place as a walled market hub. Burned down during a great fire, (rumored to be sabotage) leaving only the market square intact.

Fourth Settlement

Ashenhold: Rebuilt with brick and slate roofs; many houses are patched from older ruins. Narrowly escape destruction during the War of the Raptors.
