On the Origin of Elves

Elves, one of the longest living natural species with a lifespan known to reach into the two thousands however for a reason unknown most elves eventually lose their minds. This hoppers at different times for individuals but is known to happen to all eventually. The likely hood that one Is to lose their mind increases with age. This is a topic that few elves know as it is uncommon in younger elves, and thought of as dementia in older elves, and thought of as a natural part of life. Few know that this is not a natural phenomenon, and can happen to any elf regardless of age.
  The origin of this species, if fairly well understood with only few missing pieces in their understanding. Elves are to have been birthed by the immense life energy of the world tree that resides at their races birthplace. All elves no matter the subspecies can trace their lineage back to the originals known as World Elves, a now extinct type of elf. It is believed that when the Goddess of Justice and light Lumeria the Last Light, fought with the God of Nature and beasts Erovas the devouring Bloom atop the world tree they broke pieces off that fell to the ground and grew into the World elves. The world elves were known to be fully immortal and not age in the slightest, the price to this immortality was that they could not stray outside the grove of the world tree without withering into dust. Despite not taking part in the First War, refusing to venture outside of the protection of the world tree, it is known that after this war there have been no sightings of them. They are believed to have gone extinct at this point. However their blood still flows through the bodies of the elves of today though now changed. Most subspecies of Elf were created before the First war through the meddling of gods. The Drow were created by the Goddess of Death and darkness Velratha the mourning Veil. It is said that she took some World elves to the afterlife to visit their long past mortal friends, but in the process she changed them, warped them into something different, something new. Wood Elves were created as the God of Nature and beasts Erovas the devouring Bloom, granted some of the world elves the ability to leave its grove in exchange for their immortality they would receive a maximum of 2,500 years of life. High Elves the last known subspecies of elf were born after Lumeria granted the request of a few Drow who regreted the change brought upon them from traversing the underworld, asked her to raise them out of the darkness they had become surrounded by. She obliged and raised them back up into the light creating the first High Elves.
