Property Rights

Most families in the Realm have some form of valuable possession, whether it is farmland, buildings, tools, tapestries, or jewelery. While there is no codified system of laws for the Realm, villages typically follow the same traditions for inheritance and property disputes.

Inheritance

All heads of household in the Realm must have an heir. A Gachnif's heir is typically their spouse, followed by their oldest living child, and then siblings and other relatives. A villager who somehow dies without an heir will have their possessions auctioned off. Non-heirs typically do not inherit anything, although it is common to give extravagant gifts or family heirlooms for weddings, births, and coming-of-age ceremonies of younger children.

Theft

Theft is fairly rare in the Realm, although pirates sometimes patrol the busier trade routes. If a thief is caught, they are required to pay back the value of the goods they stole threefold. If the thief cannot afford the debt, they will be banished from the village (although not outright banished into the forest). If a follower of Yon is caught stealing, they will be quarantined.

Grazing Rights

Maintaining adequate pastures is a challenge for most villages in the Realm. Because an individual Farmer may not have enough space to feed their herd year-round, neighbors will often rotate their herds between each other's pastures to allow the grass to grow. This can lead to disputes over whose animals are whose, which need to be resolved by the village council.
