The Veil
The Veil is an unseen extraplanar shield that enshrouds the entire Realm of Tarsere, including all the planets and moons within the solar system and almost completely disconnects it from the rest of the multiverse. The Elder God Helos originally placed it there during his self-imposed exile from the chaos of the Godswar at the Dawn of Time. It subsequently has become the prison trapping Helos' ancient foe, Dhamoc, from escaping back into the universe.
Manifestation
There is no visible physical barrier (or at least not one that anyone has ever encountered) to The Veil. However, spellcasters have described it as manifesting as a variably shifting -- almost infinite -- amount of "thickness" or layers when they attempt to cast spells designed to contact, travel to or scry on other planes or dimensions. Compensating for the variable complexity of these additional layers requires much larger amounts of spell components, is extremely physically and mentally taxing on the caster and ensures that success is never guaranteed. Only the most skilled (or insane) practitioners attempt to pierce The Veil.
While this severely limits contact with the Outer Planes, it does not seem to much affect access to either the Shadowfell or Faewild and spells that draw their energies from those planes (such as Misty Step) are not noticibly affected.
