King Alexandelios I Angelis

Alexandelios I Angelis, son of Alexis X Angelis, also known as Alexandelios the Infuriator. Alexandelios has gone down in the history of Kimion as one of the most consequential kings in the history of Oliviara, nevermind his own kingdom. His feats include the building of the city that shares his name as well as the formation of the first standing national army. Feats that lose their grandeur when contextualized by the fact that both of them were a direct response to his instigation of long-held resentments on the continent. He insulted the tribes of the Erros Plains by seeking the chief's daughter's hand in marriage, a concept that doesn't exist in their culture and whose closest equivalent is sex slavery. the chief declared war and besieged the old capital of Assa at the foot of the east K'Thoni mountains, Alexandelios had the capital burned as a distraction and fled to the Peaks, where he built a fortress city and named it after his prideful self. After a time, the tribesmen became exasperated and returned to their lands, swearing off contact with the kingdom for centuries until the reign of Ymires I Angelis. This was toward the beginning of his rule; his other feat and the machinations leading up to it happened decades later and towards the end of his royal tenure. This was the revolt of the Noble Africani. Having been in their view disrespected by the king on several occasions and having had some of their land confiscated, they decided to show the king their importance to the realm in the way only Africanis know how. War. Lord Gaius Kapoti Africani, having had the last of the king's imprudence, rose up and led every man that would follow him around the country, burning towns and villages and even setting siege to the city of Goria. Upon the realisation of this king Alexandelios called upon his Lord of War to put down the threat. Unfortunately, the Lord of War under Alexandeliosand his father was Gaius's younger brother, Cyrus Apricas Africani. The king, as stubborn as ever, raised his own army consisting of conscripts and the very few men who were more loyal to the king than to their own lord (as the lords of the kingdoms had elected to remain neutral) and led this untrained group of armor-clad vagabonds to war. He lost. Devastatingly. The king found himself at the mercy of the Africanis as the besieged Alexandelios, as even though they weren't able to penetrate the Great Walled City, they were able to keep supplies out of the city, starving the king off his roost. He capitulated to their demands for respect and greater autonomy, only being able to squeeze in one condition of his own. That the army the Africanis raised would continue their duties, unchanged, just under new management. These 50,000 men became the first 5 legions of the Royal Kimion Army. Alexandelios died not 6 months later of a suspected poisoning. No one was ever punished for the king's death, and history records it as him simply choking on his bread and wine. Coincidentally, Alexandelios' daughter, Queen Angelica I Angelis, was a renowned potion maker known especially for her poisons.
