The Ashen Heir

A myth surrounding the rebirth of the Drottnira and the return of the Velkara’s sacred inheritance.

The Ashen Heir is an enduring Velkaran myth that concerns the return of ancient magic through a chosen descendant who will awaken the Ash Tree—the sacred axis of the Velkara people—after generations of silence.
While the title and mantle of Drottnira have passed unbroken through the ages, no Drottnira in living memory has stirred the spirit of the tree. The myth tells of an heir born with the mark, who will not only reawaken the tree but lead the Velkara back to something long since lost.
This story is widely known, but in modern times it is often regarded more as a poetic tale than a prophecy.
“The tree once burned from root to bough,
not with flame, but with power.
Its leaves sang the sky into being.
Its bark remembered names long lost.

But when the bloodline faltered in spirit,
when magic withdrew into marrow,
the tree closed its eye.
But it did not die

The Drottnira still rose, as was their duty,
clothed in wisdom, marked in rite,
but the tree did not stir.

For one day a child will be born,
tall as the starlit branches,
strong as carved bone,
eyes of starlight.

She would carry the mark upon her brow
and carry the shuddering of the world on her shoulders.

  She would walk as soldier,
She would speak as thunder,
She would break and be broken.
She would be silenced.
She would speak.
She would walk across the stars.

She would not reach for the Mantle.
She would find it herself,
beneath the root and ruin,
beneath the ashes of forgetting.

And through her, the clan shall remember.
And through her, we shall find our way home.”

A sacred tale whispered through generations of the Velkara, The Ash-Born Heir foretells the return of the True Drottnira.
A child born in a time of fading magic, marked by the old blood, destined to stir the sleeping Ash Tree and lead the Velkara back to their forgotten inheritance.
Long believed to be symbolic, the tale has gained new relevance in recent generations.
