The Necropolis

The Necropolis is a place of grief and misery for the people of the Radiant Nexus. Once a city of great beauty and culture, war rendered it a crumbling mass grave. Mortals dare not go near it, for now it is nothing but a city for the dead.

Purpose / Function

The Necropolis was once a major city of innervation, but now it is nothing but a mass graveyard for novice necromancers to practice their foul arts.

History

Long before the Illithid invasion, the Necropolis was a major elven city deep within the jungle of Arenthuil, simply known as Erenduil. It was the site of great innervation and advancement. However, when the Mind Flayer fleets arrived in the Radiant Nexus, Erenduil was turned into a central war hub for the mortal forces. As the war raged on, Erenduil stagnated until it became nothing but a bulwark against the Illithid hordes. As the final days of the war drew closer the Illithid grew more restless, until they finally attempted to lay siege to Erenduil and tried to take out the major resistance leaders. The following battle would echo through time itself. For ten months mortal and Illithid forces clashed. Millions died and millions more were wounded, but finally the mortal resistance managed to drive the Illithid fleet from the Radiant Nexus and back to were they came from. After burying their dead, the elves abandoned the city, renaming it the Necropolis (City of the Dead). No mortal has since dared reclaim the city. However, after the death of the ancient lich Larloch, an intrepid necromancer, by the name of Shadow established a home there. Since he has risen himself to lichdown and has begun recruiting undead and evil creatures from across the Nexus to his cause, forming the nation of Shadowhold.
