The Great Draconic Schism
For thousands of years the children of Asgorath lived in peace and harmony with the other Primordials. That all changed when Annam, Father of Giants, insulted Asgorath and began a great war between the dragons and the giants, one that lasted for hundreds of thousands of years. After a great climatic fight, Annam split Asgorath in twain and drove back the dragon army. Asgorath did not die that day, however, instead two separate beings rose from his corpse, two opposing yet strikingly similar creatures, Tiamat and Bahumut. These two despised each other and saw different paths for dragon-kind, one the conquest of the Material Plane, the other seeking harmony with the other creatures of the world. Both longing to guide dragon-kind down their own paths, the two fled to opposite ends of the continent, causing the children of Asgorath to split in two as the Great Dragon once had. Tiamat headed to the north with the majority of the chromatic coloured dragons, and Bahumut headed south with the majority of the metallic dragons. And after regaining their strength and consolidating a great army of the fellow children of Asgorath they waged a great war with each other, leaving the giants to rule the centre of the continent. This great schism had huge ramifications, ones that prevented dragon-kind from ever uniting against the giants. Even after their ascension, Tiamat and her pantheon (including Null, Task, Astilabor and Lendys), and Bahumut and his pantheon (Kereska, Garyx, Zorquan and Hlal) continued to wage their great war, only uniting once again to forge a champion that would lead dragonkind to victory against the giants...
