The Golden Achenaeum (Gol-den Ack-an-ay-um)
In the center of the Fields of Oberon is an ancient city filled with vast tomes of long forgotten lore, ruled by mutants of mysterious and magical origins. For millennia the Golden Achenaeum has stood far in the sky, untouched by mortal hands.
Purpose / Function
The Golden Achenaeum was once a enormous, bustling city for both the metallic dragons and the elves. But now it is nothing but a floating ruin filled with dark secrets and ancient mutant monstrosities.
History
Over 100,000 years ago, long before the ancient elven Lathlaeril Empire or the arrival of the Illithid, the Radiant Nexus was ruled by giants and dragons. Both civilizations were in an eternal war with one another, each trying to gain the upper hand. The capital of the kingdom of the dragons was the Golden Achenaeum, a vast, sprawling city filled with ancient lore and magical knowledge. After the fall of these ancient empires the city was taken by the elves, who further developed the city and filled it with tomes of ancient knowledge. As the elves power grew, so did their arrogance. Archmage Karsus, Lord of the Achenaeum, used his immense magical power to raise the city out of the ground and into the air. When the elves drew the attention of the Illithid, causing their invasion of the Radiant Nexus, and forcing Mystryl, Goddess of Magic, to sacrifice herself to protect the rest of the Great Wheel from the Illithid threat, the Golden Achenaeum was abandoned. Ever since the city has laid untouched, still floating high in the air. Few have dared explore the city for fear of the immense magical energy that perpetuates throughout and the terrible mutant beings that roam its streets.
