Mattermaker

A Mattermaker is one who can weave energy into materials. They tend to specialize in creating one type of material, such as fabric, metal, wood, food, water, gas, etc.

While Mattermakers can create matter from energy, the amount of energy required to do that is immense. Instead, they often simply transform matter into energy, then into a different matter, with the transformation happening so fast, it is as if they are changing one type of matter into another.

MAGE, MAGUS, and MAGA utilize Mattermakers in their supply chain, often having a 'maker in each of their locations. These Magecrafters dispose of waste, such as garbage, by transforming it into necessary equipment and supplies, such as clothing, food, and glass containers used by Alchemists.

Perception

Social Status

Mattermakers are viewed as both useful and creative. Those who specialize in food often behave like talented chefs, viewing their culinary creations as art for the tongue. Clothing-specialists frequently indulge in experiments in fashion, which other Magecrafters might find over the top.

Mattermakers often spend most of their working days at their assigned location, making supplies for other Magecrafters, particularly Alchemists and the local heads of office. As they get older, many Mattermakers become very nurturing and act like a house-mother for the organization.

History

A rather famous Mattermaker, Alexander Selkirk, became the inspiration for Robinson Crusoe after surviving alone on an island for four years. While his ability was not mentioned in official, publicized accounts, MAGE had him on their membership books. It is likely that his survival was, in part, due to his resourcefulness in using his Craft.

Similarly, the Robertson family, stranded on a lifeboat for 38 days in the early 70s, likely owed their survival to the fact that the Magecrafter family included a Mattermaker, Lyn, wife and mother of the family. Lyn specialized in wood, but developed a secondary specialty in fresh water during their adventure at sea.
