The Kokotni, hailing from the Pilgrim Lands and one of the original members of the Alliance of Seventeen Nations , are often held as the premier traders of the continent, with an inherent knack for persuasion and salesmanship. As with all stereotypes, this does not hold as universally true for a whole population, but this time it does speak to a certain sect of the Kokotni population who seek to make their own personal fortunes abroad selling myriad goods and products.

Shared customary codes and values
Feeding into the ideas of the Kokotni being traders and merchants, one of their largest societal taboos is the knowing coverup and sale of bad goods. If you are simply bad at a craft, you aren't necessarily outcast for that. But if you have purchased a bad craft, and sell it to another while dressing up that bad craft as something else, then you are opened up to social consequences.
