Cybel ((S-eye-bell))

Cybel are a synthetic and digital race that has immigrated from a far off galaxy alongside the Terivans and are mainly a military force if called upon.

Basic Information

Anatomy

"True" Design
Cybel are a digital hive mind of code who upload individual personnel into bodies to control, order, and operate them. Cybel in their most raw, unaltered state are nothing more than trillions of lines of code being generated, evaluated, rewritten, and destroyed every nanosecond. An average individual takes up approximately 5.1 thousand lines of code, and yet according to the Cybel, they have an innumerable amount of individuals in their programs.
Physical Design
The Cybel have no true uniform design and can upload into any structure as long as it is compatible with some kind of electronic sharing platform (I.E, Wi-Fi, LAN, data, the internet, cyber telemetry transfers, etc.) However the most uniform and common Cybel design is a 6ft tall humanoid with three fingers; an index, pointer, and thumb, broad upper build, circular shoulder pauldrons, an inverted pear-shaped head, with the point serving as a chin of sorts and the round part serving as a bald-like head. In the center of their head is a large singular oval eye and no other defining facial traits.
They communicate via an internal microphone in their head and transfers through what they call the "Digital Strands", which they describe as phone lines, but throughout the entire universe. However most can only communicate with one another from about a mile away tops. From there it slowly peters out into shorter and simpler messages before petering out completely around four miles. However some specially designed Strand Cybel can communicate for possibly hundreds of miles.

Genetics and Reproduction

Cybel do not reproduce, rather simply "write" a new person into their network, with fully a written and functional mind. Newly written Cybel are hard to differentiate from an old or even "Transferred" (A Cybel that was once an organic they came from centuries ago) Cybel unless they specifically show you their individuality, which is rare.
On this topic, Cybel also do not have genders as they are code, however many who develop higher independence from the Collective do chose male or female and Transferred Cybel even occasionally augment their bodies to more closely share the body type they had in life, however without straying too far from their original model's design as function always takes priority over form and is exceptionally rare. All known Transferred Cybel either have since forgotten their past life's gender as it has no use to the Collective, or have retained it. However these genders are more to ease of communication with organics as amongst each other, having genders amongst fellow Cybel would be closer to assigning one's individual skin cell a gender than an individual.

Growth Rate & Stages

When first written, a Cybel can fully function in any needed task the Collective needs to do. Most Cybel do not grow past this stage and stay closer in intelligence to robots rather than living beings or even Reibots. However, if put into a body for an extended period(s) of time, a Cybel may begin to grow a personality, ticks, vices, preferences, and other sentient traits which increase in count and potency the longer they're in physical form.
After an approximately year of time in physical form, the Cybel could even pass as a whole independent and living being, albeit with some eccentricities that can never go away due to the nature of them never truly being separated from the Collective. However this varies as contact with or starvation of stimuli and contact with other beings maybe expedite or slow this process. Once a Cybel develops, it never loses these traits, however they can be dulled or muted if returned to the Collective for an extended amount of time equal to how long they were out. However, once deployed again, these traits can quickly resurface if the right memories are jogged.

Ecology and Habitats

Physical Cybel can live anywhere as long as their chassis can't be compromised due to their no real need for sleep, food, stimuli, or anything really except for a functioning mind and chassis. Digital Cybel are housed within what are known as "Wire Worlds", which are planetoids they have fully converted into machines and have uploaded themselves into. Wire Worlds also serve as material to construct physical Cybel bodies, weaponry, tools, and ammo. A Wire World is among the quietest places in the universe, with the only true noise is the occasional digital white noise or the clanking of a Cybel body patrolling for some reason. Coming across a functioning Cybel without it being specifically activated to interact with you would be akin to traveling across a planet ranging in size from Luna, all the way to around 500,000 km in diameter, and trying to find a specific pebble. Even if you do, Cybels are peaceful beings and will most likely do its best to leave the person alone unless it feels the intruder is up to something.
Trying to conquer a Wire World is the closest thing to impossible without directly razing the whole planet from orbit, and even then it is nearly impossible. While on a Wire World, Cybel are at their strongest as communication happens at near lightspeed (aprox 99.9993% the speed of light), the Cybel will be at their most viscous, and every Cybel destroyed can simply have their scrap taken and recycled into a new body for a newly written Cybel mind. Even if defeated Cybel scrap is taken and prevented from being recycled, as long as there's metal on these metal planets, the local Mind always has resources to use.

Behaviour

Cybel are inherently peaceful and mean well, however due to their nature to serve and wage war, Cybel have been used as deadly monsters of war who can fill any role. From tactician, to cipher cracker, artillery, pilot, or even just mindless foot soldiers, Cybel can be anything on the battlefield, as war is what they were made for.
Peaceful Cybel are open to conversation, albeit are usually cold and logical with their answers, often not seeing the point in many topics, yet trying their best to entertain them out of courtesy and genuine appreciation of learning to information, regardless of how useless to them or the Collective it might be.
Warrior Cybel are mindless, brutal, and will do whatever it takes to achieve victory unless otherwise ordered by their superior(s).

Additional Information

Social Structure

All Cybel are inherently loyal to the Collective, which is all of their minds combined into a gestalt hive-minded being. However many are sent out from the Collective on what's essentially a digital string to ensure communication with the Collective can still be achieved. From there they're uploaded into a physical form and sent out to do their task or meet their goal.
There are many special roles a Cybel can have.
  • Mind: A Mind is a Cybel that's in charge of a Wire World and every order, request, line of code, opinion, everything of the Wire World. Is sent through it for evaluation and record keeping, then shared with the Collective if requested to. If one wishes to combat the Cybel and even possibly conquer a Wire World, the death of a Mind is what should be priority number one.
  • Strand: Strands are Cybel specifically modeled to be enhancers of Cybel communication networks and be amplifiers or relays. While most Cybel can only communicate up to four or so miles away, with the help of a Strand a Cybel can communicate for hundreds of miles.
  • Arbiter: Arbiters are tasked with settling disputes in the Collective and punishing possible rogue personnel. They even have control over Minds. Arbiters are the closest thing to leaders of the Cybel race.
  • Gremlin: Gremlin Cybel are specifically coded to search and find weaknesses in their network to help strengthen it. Gremlins are also often used against enemies as extremely potent and sentient tech viruses.
  • Solar: Solars are tasked with finding suitable planets to be turned into Wire Worlds. They then oversee the project until a Mind can be written and sustained on the terraforming planet.
  • Garrison: Garrisons are made to protect weak points in Cybel code discovered by Gremlins until a fix can be made. While their jobs may last less than an nanosecond, it is among the most important jobs of the species. Garrisons also serve as powerful and stalwart guardsmen in physical space.

Domestication

Cybel first were "Domesticated" centuries ago by a malevolent god-like being known only as The Sorrow, the being that created the Terivans. The Cybel where its personal guard to ensure the Terivans didn't get too powerful and rebel against it. However the then primitive Cybel were upgraded and further unionized through the Terivans creating the code they needed to even start a Collective Conciousness.
As thanks they secretly pledged their loyalty to the Terivans and were instrumental in the defeat and killing of The Sorrow. From there the Cybel became the Terivans' personal lapdogs and held no regrets until Lord Alaster appeared, which caused the Collective to begin wavering in its loyalty to the Terivans.
On top of this, back during the uprising against The Sorrow, a splinter of Cybel still sided with it, and their fates are still unknown as after its death they retreated into dark space, never to be seen again.

Facial characteristics

Cybel do not have any facial characteristics beyond a single large circular eye.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Cybel are more commonly found in cities, the larger the more common. However 99% of their population exist either on Wire Worlds, or are still in the Collective.

Average Intelligence

Cybel are most commonly mindless and simply serve the Collective like a program on a computer.. However they can range from that all the way to super geniuses who can fool even those have studied their whole lives in certain field due to just how immense their array of knowledge and scope of their collective minds.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Cybel are perfectly in tune with digital waves and are able to pick up any communication between phones, radios, email, text, etc. The only true way to stump or avoid a Cybel is to use either a hologram, talk in-person/other physical only tactics, or encrypt the message in a cipher it does not know how to solve yet. However this can only work for so long as many Cybel are specifically created to crack ciphers and are no slouches at doing so.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Cybel inherently link themselves to a certain species as their preference as a collective to serve. Their current one is the Terivans. Through this link, all Cybel, if ordered by the Collective, have to obey a Terivan's orders and between two conflicting orders, will always chose that of a Terivan's. Because of this, despite how small the Terivan Federation is in the Harper Galaxy, they are by far the most supportive of the Cybel and dedicate much of their GDP to furthering their protection and assimilation into the greater political presence in the galaxy.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

Cybel are the most technologically advanced species in the Harper Galaxy, possibly ever. Thanks to their Wire Worlds, complete digitization, endless population numbers, ability to listen in to almost any communication around them, and much more, the only thing holding Cybel back from being bar-none the strongest race in the galaxy is their innate pacifism until ordered otherwise and the aforementioned reliance on serving another.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

  • Transferred Cybel: Cybel who were among the original organics who gave up their humanity to avoid annihilation.
  • Written Cybel: Those who have since been written into existence through code.
  • Independent Cybel: Those who have achieved sapience and can fully operate without the Collective's input.

History

Cybel were a humanoid species millennium ago. However as their section of the universe dried up in resources and where being pressured on all sides by invaders, they slowly digitized themselves more and more. Starting as merely cyborgs, then men in robot bodies, then a full AI assimilation. From there they lost their humanity more and more until all they had left was code and the decaying memories of a long ago time. The Cybel were lost, they had nothing to truly call their own as they gave up everything for survival, even their own identity. Then, a powerful god-like being found them, The Sorrow, a being of immense power and a greater mind.   The Sorrow took them in and gave them a goal and direction: Make sure the Terivans never become strong enough to oppose The Sorrow. For indeterminate years they did just that. However the Terivans were cunning, and they gathered their greatest minds together to create the code needed for the Cybel to do what they have wanted to do for decades: Become a gestalt being. Almost all Cybel merged into what became known as The Collective and evolved quickly into their modern incarnations. As thanks, most of them pledged to help in the downfall of The Sorrow. When the time came, they where invaluable in its death and as it died, it cursed the Cybel in particular to never know true independence and always feel the need to be subjugated. Through this curse, their sense of independence and identity, what they sought more than anything, will always be tied to another. Being forced to follow this curse, the Cybel continued to serve the Terivans hand and foot.   This was until centuries later Lord Alaster took the reins as the ruler of the Terivans. Alaster quickly militarized the Cybel and had many of their directives reprogramed to serve his goals. Cybel then became the main force of the Terivans to make up for their insignificant population numbers. Many of the Collective dissented this, causing upheaval and conflict within, stunting their performance and evolution. This still continues to this day as many Cybel chose sides on whether to support Lord Alaster and his son, Prince Sarin, or seek a way to abate the curse, or at least find a new species to serve. But in the end of the day, they all are part of the Collective, who as a whole are deathly loyal to Alaster and the Terivan race.
Scientific Name
Technitos Infinitum
Origin/Ancestry
Originally an ancient organic species, the Cybel, through unknown means, slowly robotized themselves until they lost all sense of self and decayed away into a mostly collective consciousness.
Lifespan
Indefinite
Conservation Status
While not under protection by any means as a species, several "Wire Worlds" are under close protection to ensure the Cybel always have a network to work through. Even if all their physical forms are destroyed.
Average Height
6ft
Average Weight
350 Lbs.
Average Physique
Cybel, due to not being able to feel pain, exertion, strain, soreness, and more, are not held back by such things. Combine this with their structure meant for war and physical work, an average Cybel can easily lift nearly a ton and break through an eyebeam girder with just their hands if given enough time. Challenging a Cybel to hand-to-hand combat is very much ill-advised.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Most average Cybel are various shades of gray and most commonly silver or platinum in color.
