Initial Entry and Observations

MTF Omega-5 accessed the basement through a hidden door behind a bookcase in M.5, triggered by a lever disguised as a book. The basement revealed a variety of rooms used for different magical and alchemical purposes.
 

Room-by-Room Analysis

Alchemical Laboratory (M.17): Showed evidence of attempts to transmute materials into gold, with numerous scorch marks indicating failures. Also found were clay figures at various stages of homunculi creation.

Summoning Room (M.18): The room had clear signs of being used for summoning, possibly a Quasit, but the exact nature of the summoned entity remained unclear.

Preserved Menagerie (M.19): Housed a collection of rare and aberrant creatures, including a live slaad tadpole and four crawling claws, which attacked upon approach. Notably, the mimic from M.8 had escaped from this room.

Anomalous Phenomena Encountered

The team encountered various anomalies such as the animated crawling claws in the menagerie and the remnants of summoning rituals in the summoning room. The variety of specimens in the menagerie provided insight into Fistandia's interests and capabilities in natural philosophy and aberrant creatures.

MTF Omega-5 navigated the basement with caution, particularly in the menagerie where they faced unexpected attacks from the preserved specimens. The discovery of the homunculi figures and the evidence of alchemical experiments added to the team's understanding of the mansion's purpose and Fistandia's research.

The exploration concluded with a comprehensive understanding of the basement's role in the mansion. The team discovered that the command word to reopen the mansion’s portal is “liberty.” This knowledge allowed safe egress from the extradimensional space back to Candlekeep.
