Fire Salt

Manufacturing process

The salt is powdered and then mixed in with the dried basalt lichen until completely thourouly mixed. Afterwords the flicker powder is folded into it. The mixture is then heated in a low heat kiln for about 20 hours. The resulting crystalline material that results is Fire Salts.

History

Fire Salt was first created around 645 BF in the Hufa Province of the Empire. The exact manner in which this came about is of some debate as descendants of no less then three notable alchemists all claim their progenitor was the first to come up with the common table staple.   While the facts are in doubt the affect was not. Within a few years most households had a small supply of fire salt. It was perfect to take with your provisions for a long day or days work in the quarries that the Hufa Province was known for. As more time passed it's popularity increased until it was considered almost a requirement for most kitchens south of Freelander's Wall

Significance

Fire Salts do two things to anything it is added to. It adds a rich low heat to the dish. It also raises the temperature anything room temperature or colder it is sprinkled on. This was a cooking revelation upon it's creation. It made travel food much more palatable and easier to prepare.

To make one kg of Fire Salt requires the following   1.5 kg rock salt   500g basalt lichen   250 g flicker powder   A low heat kiln
