History

The site of Astegil has long been a desireable location. Located where the Blackcap River, coming north from The Gogorin Sea, splits with the River Tendil going towards the East Ocean and the Blackcap continuing south. The first city Astegil was 2433 BF as a semi permanent site where trading caravans could meet and conduct business. By 2320 BF it had become a permanent settlement. In 2201 BF it was destroyed when a mercenary company was contracted to take the city but the resulting fire destroyed the majority of the city.   By 2157 BF Astegil had been rebuilt. This iteration of Astegil, still a major trade hub, lasted until the Second Conquest Crusade of Empress Shontella the Implacable. During the short lived siege the Merchant Prince of Astegil sent a missive to the Empress demanding she submit to him as his wife. Incensed by the insult Empress Shontella ordered her Engineers to build engines to level the city until it submitted. Five months later three quarters of the city had been destroyed an the Merchant Prince had a very public execution after his surrender.   The City had been rebuilt by 1712 BF. It became the main trade center for the entire region. Under Imperial control the city of Astegil stood till a mage lost control of a demon summoned for a wealthy merchant. The City was destroyed in the aftermath. This occurred in 1012 BF. By 1001 BF the City had been rebuilt. It's location as a nexus of trade was too vital to The Empire to not.   When Goval VI vanished Astegil was a key asset for any would be claimant to the Throne to hold. Various claimants held it until a large battle in 12 AF leveled almost the entire city. It remained a ruin for eighty years till a prosperous merchant set up shop in the ruins. He spent his wealth to slowly rebuild the city, first starting with the docks. This allowed more trade which gave him more coin to continue. He passed on to his son a very prosperous small town. Over the centuries it grew till it once again was a trade hub for the region.

Architecture

Servicable wood constuction with stone foundations are what comprises most of the buildings of Astegil. Wealthier merchants and Khaltrap have invested in stone structures for their personal use.
