The Roman Massacre
The ill-fated counterattack to the Long Night, 15,000 knights of the Light attempted to retake their capital, only to be slaughtered to a man. This would mark the official end of the old church and the beginning of the Church of the Dark.
The Conflict
Prelude
Following the Long Night, a group of children of the Light amassed in an attempt to take back their capital of Holy Rome. In total, 15,000 Knights responded, the largest single force ever rallied by the church.
Deployment
Lucas Towne survived the initial onslaught, and would seize control of the city's main gate, opening it for the knight army. From there, the knights would swarm into the town and retake it from the traitors.
The Children of the Dark's strongest sorcerers knew of Lucas' survival and allowed him to open the gate in order to trap the invading knights within the city.

Battlefield
Holy Rome was a walled city with a massive citadel in the center. Its heavily fortified walls served to keep the knights trapped within the city once the trap was sprung.
The Engagement
The 15,000 knights were killed to a man in the ambush, with only Lucas Towne escaping. The 5 sorcerers present in the town emerged unharmed and disposed of the dead knights' corpses in a cave outside of Rome.
Aftermath
Survivors of the Church of the Light became scattered and few in numbers. The Church of the Dark became dominant in the struggle.
