Lucas Towne
Harbinger of the Light Lucas Josiah Towne
Of the survivors of the Old Church, few stand out like Lucas Towne. He was the sole survivor of the Roman massacre, where 15,000 knights of the old church attempted to take back Holy Rome. As the Harbinger of the Light, Towne has led a small band of fighters in hit-and-fade attacks to reclaim the artifacts of the light. He is also personally responsible for the deaths of many members of the church of the dark. While exact numbers are unknown, the bounty on his head is a small fortune none pursue, fearing the righteous retribution of the Redeemers.
Divine Domains
As the Harbinger of the Light, Lucas exemplifies everything the Old Church held dear. Of all of the children of the light, Lucas is considered the favored by their patron deity.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Towne is a well built man, having spent years in constant battle. His tactics often include climbing walls while laden with weapons and armor, hostile boarding actions against enemy vessels, and daring hit-and-run tactics in hostile territory.
Body Features
Towne's body is covered in scars from two centuries of service. In particular, a large scar runs across his chest, a reminder of the Roman Massacre.
Facial Features
Lucas has taken to growing a beard since the church fell. He cuts his own beard with a knife, resulting in it being ill kept.
Special abilities
Towne's X-factor is exceptionally thematic for his position. Able to summon light at his will, Towne often uses this ability to stun opponents during fights, or when using the Tome of the Light, to incinerate them outright.
Apparel & Accessories
Unlike other members of the church, Lucas dresses very modestly. His armor is often hidden beneath a brown coat or robe, and he rarely dons his helmet. He has also taken to wearing a cowboy hat in his travels, further hiding his identity as a knight. More often than not, he can be seen "dressing down" in order to deceive potential opponents on how dangerous a threat he truly is.
Specialized Equipment
Tome of the Light: One of Lucas' most prized possessions is the Tome of the Light. This book is blessed by the light and allows Lucas to channel his patron deity. Most often, this is used to intensify his X-factor.
Cross of the Idol: This artifact a small sigil of the Light worn on a golden necklace. As the favored son of the light, this sigil protects Lucas from harm, or at least he believes it does.

Personal history
Lucas was taken in by the church at birth, and raised to be a warrior. He earned many titles and honorifics during his years of service, eventually serving in Holy Rome, the main citadel of the Church of the Light. When the long night came, Holy Rome's defenders were slaughtered wholesale. He was among the defenders, but not one of them. When a force of 15,000 knights converged on Rome to retake the city, he was the one who opened the gate to allow them entrance.
Later, he would be the sole survivor of this ill-fated attack. After watching the order's finest swordsmen fall to the dark, he left Rome, killing any pursuers. A soldier from birth, Towne could not give up his duty. Instead, he created the Redeemers to continue the fight against the dark. As the Harbinger of the Light, he now leads his Redeemers in an asymmetric war against the great enemy.

Education
As all members of the church were, Towne was indoctrinated from a young age. Additionally, he was trained as a knight in the order.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Towne was known to recieve many commendations and honors during his time serving the church. He was considered one of the finest warriors in his cathedral, and a favored son of the light.
Additionally, Towne survived the Roman Massacre, a feat in itself. In the time since, he's recovered dozens of artifacts, including the Sceptre of Ra, belonging to the Church of the Light.

Failures & Embarrassments
Towne was the man who opened Holy Rome's gates to allow the knights entry to the city. Unknowingly, he led his brothers into a trap resulting in the deaths of thousands of knights.
Morality & Philosophy
Due to his indoctrination, Towne believes himself to be morally infallible. As long as everything he does is in the name of the church, nothing is sacred.
That said, Towne has a soft spot for women and children, sparing them whenever he can. He is also a surprisingly merciful man, and will usually allow captives to live unless they're from the Church of the Dark.

Personality Characteristics
Motivation
In truth, Towne is lost. Since the church was decapitated, he's been left without any direction. Long ago, Towne served out of duty and faith, but these motivations died alongside the church. Now, Towne simply fights to win. He battles the eternal enemy he's always fought because he knows no other life.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Towne is extremely skilled in espionage, sabotage, and assassination. While adept at front line combat, as all knights were, he lacks any true logistic or strategic knowledge.
Personality Quirks
Lucas is extremely guarded about the scar on his chest. He will instinctively lash out should someone attempt to touch this scar, or any clothing over it.
Social
Religious Views
Towne is still a stoic believer in the light. In his free time, he is often seen reading scripture or reconstructing ancient records. Unlike Bright, he believes that the church's members were corrupted, not its message. As such, he fights to atone for the sins of his kin while continuing the values of the Old Church.
Social Aptitude
Despite his overtly zealous nature, Towne is an inherently charismatic man. He represents the purity the Old Church sought to safeguard, leading to him being seen as idealistic by some. Though he rarely smiles now, his smile was once said to bring light to even the darkest days.
