Summer Camp 2024 prep.

Week 1: GET YOURSELF ORGANIZED!

Assignment 1

Consider what kind of changes would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.   I believe I have been very good with change in my world. When my players started in Astaragon, they were thrust into a civil war in the Silver Piece Islands, they were a special ops team assigned to take enemy cities from the inside, and through manipulation, and other espionage they made great progress. but through a carefully worded wish spell (obtained by the deck of many things) one of my players ended and won the war. and so the special ops team was disbanded, and the players became rulers of some of the towns they took. there was a one-year time gap, and when we picked up the artificer character was on the brink of developing steam power, and now presently in the campaign, it is being implemented. but another thing I can work on changing is making real fleshed-out town descriptions for each of the towns in my world, as of now each town has a one-sentence descriptor that I build on if the players go there.

Assignment 2

PREPARE YOURSELF: SET YOUR GOAL   I will be going for the gold, I spend a lot of time word-building (or at least thinking about it)

Assignment 3

PREPARE YOUR WORLD: CATEGORIES & TAGS   I Believe my categories are well organized.

Assignment 4

FOR THE OLDER WORLDS: UPDATE THE META   oh boy my meta. my meta is not complete, nor do I think it CAN be quite yet. but I will do my best to do so.

Week 2: REFUGE

Assignment 1

Consider what kinds of refuge would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.   in Astaragon, there are many places folks call refuge, the cities they live in, the homes they've built, etc. but what if you don't quite fit in, well in almost every region of Astaragon, there are civilizations of a unique type of people, the plane touched reside in places where the elemental planes intersect with the physical planes, think deep ocean trenches, towering mountain tops, the hearts of volcanos, and magical forest groves. most planes touched will welcome anyone into their civilization with hospitality and kindness, provided you can survive wherever they may be. the temples of the gods scattered around the land are great places for temporary refuge, as most people in Astaragon will not desacrate a holy place no matter what, the gods are very feared.

Assignment 2

Find a community—whether that’s our Discord server, Facebook Group, your RPG or friend group, or something else.   I am in multiple discord servers Plus 5 Carisma, World Anvil, and Arcane Arcade, the people in all the servers are very helpful.

Assignment 3

Find ways to improve styling and layout in your world!   oh boy, this one is going to be difficult, I am currently using a guild theme. My header image, as well as world image, are of a Kraken (which isn't really in tune with the rest of the world). Still, I'm no artist so until I find some better images it's staying how it is, I like it, I link related articles together quite well I think so for this one I don't really see a need for too much change. however I will look into it

Assignment 4

If you’re a CSS wizard, maybe take the time now to give it a polish!   I am no CSS wizard so will not be doing this one.

Week 3

Assignment 1

Consider what kind of beliefs would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.   I already have quite an expansive pantheon of gods, and most people in Astaragon believe In this pantheon, i could stand to improve apon descriptions of how magic and religion intertwine.

Assignment 2

Create a bank of inspirations! Quotes, music, description of experiences and shower thoughts, etc.
Quotes
"Though shall get sidetracked by stupid shit." “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” – Henry Ford “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” — Aristotle “You learn more from failure than from success. Don’t let it stop you. Failure builds character.” “Fairytales do not tell children that dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairytales tell children that dragons can be killed.” – G K Chesterton “Learn as if you will live forever, live like you will die tomorrow.” — Mahatma Gandhi “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up.” –Vince Lombardi
Shower thoughts
We all have about 2 minutes to live. But taking a breath resets that clock. Everybody takes an even amount of breaths. You breathe in when you’re born, you breathe out when you die Cutting corners just adds more corners. You just have to accept that some of the doors you open will lead you nowhere.
Music
I usually don't listen to music while writing, I usually either do it in silence, or turn on a podcast or YouTube video, but if I do listen to music my favorites are Eminem, Tyler Childers, Noah Kahan, Luke Combs, Luke Bryan, Zach Bryan. I enjoy Country/Folk music but am open to almost anything. However, my all-time favorite artist is the one and only EMINEM.
Descriptions of experiences
As the water filled his lungs, he saw all his greatest accomplishments flooding his brain, and then everything went black.

Assignment 3

Find art and pictures that inspire you, and grab a map if you don't have one (and need one).   I have plenty of maps (courtesy, and with permission of Tristan Snaer, on inkarnate) that I Love. I've also been taking a lot of inspiration from games like Elden ring to describe things in my world.

Assignment 4

Check your inspirations again. Are they still relevant? Can you find any that better represent the current state of your project?   I currently don't have an inspiration listed in my world meta, and that's because I have so many Inspirations that I don't even know what to put there, and I also feel like I don't use the inspirations too much

Week 4

Assignment 1

Consider what kind of decay would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.

Assignment 2

If you like special tea when you write, stock up for a month. Tidy your office, make a “do not disturb” sign, and think about any other last-minute strategies to optimize your writing space and time!   my best writing g environment is literally anywhere, with access to the internet, and a nice cold soda. i have some of my best ideas when I'm at work, doing nothing, so I carry a small notebook with me and jot down these ideas, then go home, or to my girlfriend's house, and turn them into articles. I am not easily distracted, so my environment is not that important to me.

Assignment 3

Review your world homepage to hook potential readers!   I will do that now, and report back with the results. I completed the homepage tab, and will defiantly continue to work on all my world settings

Assignment 4

Take a look at your author profile and pillar articles on your world and polish them! Done

It sounds as though there's a lot of change happening in Astaragon, or at least the potential for it. I hope you have a great Summer Camp. :)

So many worlds to choose from...
