Forlorn Forest
This forest lies at the north-wesern edge of the land, bordering to the southern shores of the inner sea. It is the biggest forest on the Land and the only one not to be inhabited anymore by any of the seven mortal races.
Localized Phenomena
It is said that dark shadowa can be seen lurking at the adge of the forest, watching the living and preying on their fear.
Both things and people tend to dissapear from the encampments close to the forests edge.
And some times strange noises can be heard from within.
At times even the animals of the forest - mostly birds - behave in strange ways. This can be animals dying for no apparent reason or even animals attacking people.
But not only the animals behave strangely in this place. Anger and rage seem to rise easily in the hearts of the people living close o the forest edge and so do fear, distrust and envy.

Fauna & Flora
The forest is mostly covered by coniferous trees with dark green leaves and blackish grey bark. There is hardly any undergroth in most places and where there is it is thick and thorny and almost impossible to break through.
The animals living in this forest are few but mostly birds. And most of those are of dark colours with sharp beaks and unfriendly voices.
There are also some black deer and boars and some say even bears to be found in these forests but few dare go and hunt them for they rarely come to the forest edge. Their meat in edible but of a horrible taste. Their pelts however fetch high prices at the markets of the cities.

Natural Resources
Prisoners are encamped at the forest edge to fell the dark trees of the wood. It is highly valuable for the making of furniture. Yet the wood also has a rather sinister reputation and some superstitious people believe it to bring bad luck to the owner or even anyone who touches it. Within the noble class however it is a sign of superiority and dominance over the evil that lurks in that forest.
History
At the creation of the mortal races, the forlorn forest - at the time known by another name - was given to the dark elves as homeland. For the whole of the first Order these creatures lived there, having only little contact with the other races. Little is known of their doings there to any other but the dark elves themselves. Beeing a race of powerful magic however they are believed to have studied the darker aspects of magic and sometimes even to have tried it on the humans living in those days close to the forest edge.
During the great demonwar they fought alongside the other mortal races as fearsome warriors. And when the end came and a last plan was made they offered to sacrifice their homeland as place of imprisonment for the souldestroyer. This was agreed upon and the dark elves left their ancestral homes since the presence of such an evil creature made the whole land uninhabitable.
Since these days the land is known as the forlorn forest or the dark wood and few dare enter it.
