CYBERTRON

A planet with billions of people and billions of years of history, Cybertron is a complex world. The vast majority of its people have vehicle forms allowing for a broad range of transportation, which means most settlements formed as sprawling interconnected knots of tangled roads and intersecting territory. The ability to naturally travel several hundred miles in a day means community expanding quite far from the very onset. On top of that, the unique geography means some cities are underground, some are flying, some are strung across enormous canyons.   Even for a species so long-lived, the sheer amount of time that this world has weathered means cities rise and fall and fade into legend. Tectonics shift and bury old hallowed grounds. Culture moves on and people forget who came before. What secrets are there, hidden in the layers of this living planet?

Polities

Under the current regime of the Stratocracy run by the Grand Architect, Cybertron is a united planet, with 19 city-states and 6 ordinance zones.   Hexima State in the north is the largest ordinance zone, made up of Iacon, Altihex, and Nova Cronum, with a good amount of shoreline on the Rust Sea. Stanix Province is the second largest, taking up the south with Kaon, Ultrix, and Kalis. The Darklands have a fair amount of territory across the equator, despite only consisting of Nyon and Tarn and most of the Mithric Sea, with claim to the Sea of Ages in the north as well. East of Nyon is the Torus Heights, an ordinance zone made up of the equatorial Tri-Peninsular Torus States Praxus, Protihex, and Uraya. West of Tarn is the Tagan Heights, with Vos, Tyrest, Helex, and Polyhex, as well as a large section of the Rust Sea. The smallest ordinance zone is Alyon Province, surrounded by the Rust Sea and three other zones, consisting of Tyger Pax, Hydrax, Crystal City, and Rodion.   The hierarchy of civil authority is first the Grand Architect and his High Council, then each ordinance zone, then each city-state within their zone, and then each city or town. A distinction is made between different city-states, either a Torus-City or an Emirate. Due to the fragmented geology of Cybertron, each major landmass is divided by the great chasms of the Sonic Canyons, the largest of which have filled in to become the three seas. A proper Torus-City is one that encompasses and owns its own landmass, while an Emirate is one that is considered to be squatting or encroaching upon a landmass not their own, and thus is slightly subservient to the Torus-City whose land they live upon. Kalis, Tyrest, and Helex are Emirates of Kaon, Rodion is an Emirate of Polyhex, and Tyger Pax is an Emirate of Nova Cronum. Over the course of Cybertronian history, borders and polities and authorities have changed and shifted, so the modern pecking order of city-states and landmasses has not always been true.

Geography

Cybertron consists of multiple "tectonic plates", large landmasses of compressed strata that often reach down to the center of the planet. It has no mantle or molten core, two-thirds of its mass remains solid and riddled with hollow spaces. Fourteen of these landmasses make up the outer shell of the planet, with six or seven other masses floating beneath these. Historical record and geologic evidence suggests that several of these landmasses used to be one but broke apart at some point in history, and others are formed from two or more being crushed together. Most notably, the areas of Tyrest and Vos used to be a single landmass in conjunction with the Kaonic area, and Altihex used to be attached to Iacon.   Each landmass is relatively free-floating, with the Sonic Canyons dividing them and plunging down between masses to eventually reach the great gap between Vector Sigma's housing and the strata of Cybrtron. Many canyons are bridged by crystal seams, cyberfungal growth, natural cabling, and strata structures like tunnels, wiring, and scaffolding. These keep the landmasses integrated with one another in places, while in some spots the masses lean against each other and turn the canyons into little more than cracks. The Mithric Sea and Sea of Ages are areas where the surrounding plates have leaned against each other and formed a relatively sealed off section of canyon that filled in with liquid.   The farther down a mass reaches, the more dense and compressed its strata becomes, while near the surface, the lack of pressure allows layers to relax upwards, often forming huge overhangs, interstrata cavities, and even magnetically elevated sections of land. While natural decompression cavities are common, another form of cavity appears in multiple spots around the globe, sometimes as long scoremarks, broken layers, deep chasms, or what look like eroded blast zones. These are called scarring cavities, and geologists believe these are the remnants of meteor impacts or falling pieces of elevated strata.   Every landmass, and indeed nearly every space between strata has some form of ore deposit, mineral seam, energon leyline, or natural tunnel system. Some of these are hotspots, welling up from the very center of the planet to erupt with sentio metallico and produce new life. There are only twelve active hotspots on Cybertron, although evidence suggests that number has varied by two or three throughout history.

History

Thanks to the long lifespans of Cybertronians, their recorded history stretches back incredibly long, with many events uncertain, unlikely, or perhaps even made up wholesale.   History of Cybertron
  • Sun: Hadean
  • Moons: Luna 1 (Moonbase Α, Hecate), Luna 2 (Moonbase Β, Selene)
  • System: Hadean System (Cybertronian System)
  • Colonies: Caminus, Velocitron, Eukaris, Devisiun, Carcer
  • Native species: Cybertronians
