World Ember 2025 Assorted Homework Document

Part the First: Le Pledge

I am going to stop putting off a part of the world that I really hadn't wanted to write up but really needs to be done. I'm going to do the decidedly unsexy work of adding all of the house rules, guides, and as much of the equipment related stuff as I can to the world specific "Player Handbook" in order to make it somewhat easier for people outside my immediate friend circle to get started playing. I expect this will be at least a 25.000 word commitment, but given my propensity for verbosity I could go higher.

The Fun Stuff

The good news is that I will finally be adding the first non-human options for my world. So all those folk who resent playing humans in ttrpgs can rejoice as I will be introducing robots and uplifted cephalopods the 'Astropus' as playable species. If I have some extra time, I will also be introducing several types of robots that could easily be adopted as chassis for our artificial PCs.

The Less Fun (but very Necessary) Stuff

Also included are going to be a couple of guides for collected house rules and how to read the map (while I found the Traveller astropgraphy intuitive to read, I have since been informed that I am kind of a weirdo for that). I will also add as many databases of equipment, weapons, armor, and cybernetic augments as I can get away with making without inducing burnout.

The Novella (Articles I Have Some Ideas For That Can Maybe Help Kick My Arse back Into Gear If I Get Burnt Out)

I have been browsing the prompts list looking for ideas, and there have been some which have given me some spicy ideas to work with. Of particular note was the article about a military unit famous for its weird ranged weapon, as I've an idea for such a unit that utilizes flying swords as one of its assassination tools, I might switch over to writing about that or other, similar things if I start to encounter burnout.

Part the 1st and a Half

Typically I feel so burnt out after doing my own writing that I often neglect to participate in the community. In the name of good community spirit, I am going to try to be a bit more active with my reading in the January homework. In terms of order of operations I'm gonna try and pay back the people that hit me up this summer (and any who do so for Worldember as well), then if possible I would like to read some more worldbuilding content in foreign languages. As I have been struggling my way through a dense political treatise written by Clara Campoamor this year, it would be a fun change of pace to do some lighter reading in Spanish in January. If anybody has recs for worlds written in Spanish (Castellano primarily, but I am also actively interested in Galician) feel free to hit me up.

Part the 2nd: Bingo!

Accountability

Refresh Author Page

I made some tweaks around the edges, nothing major. I try to stay off of social media these days so I will have to reconfigure my socials to account for that.

Le Scope

As I've already stated in the pledge document, I'm going to be focusing on expanding (creating really) the players handbook and the bulk of the new content will be focusing on that, though I will likely do a few side projects to help avoid burnout.

Le Books

I decided that All Tomorrows was worth a reread, and did that. I also managed to finish a section of La Revolución Española vista por una Republicana (Campoamor) between the start of the month and its end. Reading above my tested Spanish level proved difficult, but I'm glad I can still struggle my way through it piece by piece.

Le List

The articles that I've already have a firm idea about what I'm doing for are as follows:

  • Assorted House Rules
  • Robots as Travellers
  • Astropus
  • Armory Introduction
  • Equipment Introduction
  • Armor Database
  • Armor Mods Database
  • Battledress Database
  • Weapons Database (I may break this up if I find its getting to be too damn long)
  • Weapon Mods Database

I currently have plans for a few more additional articles along the main track:

  • Electronics Database
  • Equipment Database
  • Augments Databse
  • Reading the Map

In terms of anti-burnout I don't necessarily have a dedicated list, but I've got plans for an article on two corporations (Cybersynth Robotics and CECIR, two robot manufacturers) and some more shorter articles on some of the bots they produced. A group known as Special Detachment Yaoguai, and their signature weapons, the QBU-202 portable cannon and the Yaogishidao flying sword.
