Montovaya
Montovaya (Umbraeyil: Void Mantle) are a special form of light duty vacc suit invented, and primarily used by the Starborn. Loosely akin to advanced forms of the Shipsuit more broadly available throughout charted space, Montovaya have been heavily upgraded with extended life support, a basic exoskeleton, and slightly more armor. The most noteworthy element of Montovaya however, is that each one is a unique construction built for the individual user to suit their own needs. They are relatively rarely worn by outsiders as the construction of these suits is done by Starborn for Starborn and it is often seen as a great honor for an outsider to have a suit made for them.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
Montovaya are essentially a modified and personalized light duty vacc suit. It consists of a bodysuit made from relatively lightweight but strong layered cloth constructed for high vacuum resistance. Armored material is added on top. Included are sealed boots and gloves, and a retractable helmet located in a thick collar. In the event of emergency depressurization, the helmet and gloves automatically seal up and oxygenated gel inserts provide up to an hour of life support in vacuum. The Montovaya also possess and advanced computer suite akin to that in most vacc suits of an equivalent tech level, hookups for additional life support. Montovaya are designed to be worn comfortably and hygienically for a week at a time. Each Montovaya is further customized to meet the needs of its user, this could be more armor, tools, or better sensors.
Manufacturing process
Each Montovaya is a custom creation, meaning there is no single process. Typically each Starborn ship will have a suitforger who makes each suit for a young adult as part of their coming of age. However, other ships will have the intended wear themselves make the suits, or have its creation be a group effort. Regardless however, these suits are made in limited quantities and almost never put onto the open market, though trusted outsiders can convince a Starborn suitforger to make them a suit.
