C-3 'Hunchback' Series Battle Droid
The B-3 'Hunback' Series of Robot, are a series of heavy combat droid models produced by Cybersynth Robotics. They are among the first purpose built war machines developed by the company and are focused on assault. They have relatively simple programming, heavy armor, and are in many ways radically different from the A-7 series they were initially developed from. The Hunchback is a relatively popular unit selling a few million a year, though with the rise of the superior C-9 sales of the C-3 have started to drop off slowly as is not suited to every type of engagement.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
The C-3 series is loosely based upon the wildly successful A-7 series with its core chassis sharing many similar components. However, it has been made significantly bulkier, with considerable armor added. Indeed it gained its nickname as a result of the head of the A-7 having been encased in armor giving it a hunchbacked appearance. In addition to increased armor, two weapons have been embedded in the droid's arms, a stagger laser rifle serves as its primary armament, while it has a powerful "wrist rocket" RAM Grenade launcher as a secondary weapon, both of which have plenty of additional ammunition and relatively decent fire control. However, one of the tradeoffs made was in the area of its brain. The C-3 is incredibly stupid for a "droid" being singularly focused on engaging and destroying targets.
Manufacturing process
The C-3 Series is produced in a number of Cybersynth's factories, as though the technology behind it is slightly more advanced than with the A-7 it shares a lot of parts similarities and benefits greatly from the joint construction. Much of the machine's assembly is carried out via fabrication, which constructs most of the core mechanical components. Due to the relative simplicity of the C-3's brain it too can be manufactured by Cybersynth fabricators. While final assembly is still carried out by hand, the heavy use of fabrication keeps the cost of the Hunchback relatively low, as a roughly one hundred thousand can be manufactured on a day when their production is a priority, and tens of thousands on an off day.
