Astropus
The Astropus is a sentient cephalopod animal originally native to Earth, but now adapted to the conditions of microgravity and hard vacuum. Descended from the Pacific Veined Octopus, the first Astropi were the result of extensive genetic modifications. Of particular note, astropi had their bodies changed, adapted from living life in high pressure marine environments, to extremely low pressure vacuum environments and microgravity, and their minds expanded considerably. However, as a side effect of their other genetic adaptations, astropi received an extremely stunted reproductive system, requiring direct human intervention to ensure more would be born. As genetic sciences advanced, the astropus continued to be modified alongside the Myriad Humanities. By the time of the Jred Scourge, the most recent iteration of the Astropus genome was developed. This form resulted in increased intelligence and lifespan, and somewhat resolved the reproduction issues of Astropi, though they would continue to struggle to have children.
Astropi are typically hyper-intelligent, and resilient to life in deep space, but struggle to survive in even moderate gravity and earthlike atmospheric conditions. This makes them uniquely suited to be deep space engineers and explorers, where their unique adaptations allow them to move about freely away from the influences of gravity and from the (for them) suffocating conditions of thicker atmospheres. Astropi can live planetside, often with specially made pressure suits, but face difficulties adapting to the higher gravity of most planets. Astropi cannot speak, communicating instead through elaborate body language, though many have neural comms installed that allow them to better communicate with human colleagues.

Traits
Vacuum Adaptation: Astropi are adapted to live in vacuum conditions, and therefore do not have the same atmospheric needs as other species. They can survive in Vacuum (No Atmosphere), and Trace Atmosphere conditions with no penalty indefinitely so long as they have a viable air supply. Without such an air supply they can subsist off of oxygen in their systems for up to six hours before beginning to suffocate. They can survive in Very Thin atmospheres without any environmental support, and can survive in Thin atmospheres with great discomfort. They must however, have an environmental suit (such as a Vacc Suit or HEV Suit) to survive in Standard or Thicker atmospheres.
Microgravity Adaptation: Astropi are adapted to survive in microgravity environments. They treat microgravity (Negligrable gravity ratings) as normal. They can function without penalty in gravity conditions, of up to .25 Gs, starting to take gravity related penalties to checks at gravity rates higher than this.
Cephalopod Anatomy: stropi have a cephalopod anatomy that alters how they interact with the world. For example, in most low gravity conditions they primarily move via jets, and can therefore move normally in microgravity conditions. They have eight limbs with which to hold and manipulate objects. They however, cannot speak normally, and their rare anatomy makes finding suitable equipment a more difficult and expensive process. Armors made for Astropi are twice as expensive as those made for humans (unless an armor is specifically described as being made for Astropi, assume it is made for humans).
(Optional) Free Augment: Astropi may elect to be augmented with a neural comm for free. This is not necessary but will greatly improve their ability to communicate with a human or robotic crew.
