The Black Reaper was coaxed by ███ to offer him souls in exchange in the revival of his loved ones, and ███ taught the Black Reaper dark magic to do so. The Reaper was ultimately betrayed and absorbed the souls he had harvested instead, becoming functionally immortality.
Book 1 Plot

After having killed Dan Long, a third year college student at NYU, the infamous Black Reaper assumes his identity and continues to live in New York City, where he will hunt down spiritually powerful souls to sustain his existence. His most recent target is the young witch and Exorcist hybrid Alicia Murphy. She is freshman at NYU, studying biology and hoping to attend medical school. It did not take long for the Black Reaper to make his move in an attempt to seize her power. However, things did not go as he had hoped.
