There's few records of the origins of our folk in the Mortal Lands;
The Memoria came from the stars beyond seeking a new paradise and settled here.
Did we descend from them? Were we already here? No one's really sure-
There's conflicting accounts on either side.
But I believe somewhere out there is the answer. The Truth.
And I'm gonna be the one to find it.
Somewhere in the Mortal Lands is the secret to the origin of life on this little planet. It's a carefully kept secret-It's been long since buried by both natural and unnatural phenomena. It doesn't even look like a 'place of origin'; it doesn't resemble the Ark of the Old Testament, the great flagships of the Memoria, or even a lab in which life could have grown. It looks, at first glance, like any other Memoria ruin on the planet. Winding grey hallways, dark rooms full of arcane laboratory equipment, and large dark panes of glass lining the walls.
No one alive remains to tell its tale.
Well... Almost no one.

While it is common knowledge that the
Memoria hailed from a place beyond the stars, there is no concrete record of who held the much-coveted title of 'first' upon the planet. What is unknown, even to most of the Memoria, was that the main expeditions were predeccessed by one small team of researchers who had set out to the stars in search of an answer to a burning question; Did Mankind have an equal? Comprised of a family of ten researchers, a begrudging administrator, a captive priest, and a small army of research aides, they took flight from their home planet in search of intelligent life.
They did not find it in the Mortal Lands. Instead they found their ruin.
It started with a mysterious voice over the radio, promising the answer to their search. Given coordinates, the research expedition made land, establishing outposts to begin gathering and processing resources necessary for long-term survival. They discovered Sources, the wellsprings of Creative Force that dotted the Mortal Lands.
And, in their hubris, they drank from the spring's water. The transformations came shortly after.
The priest and aides had been spared; they had not partaken of the spiked wine. But first one, then another of the ten researchers began to transform in grotesque ways. Then, one by one, they stumbled out of the lab doors in the dead of night, never to be seen again. At least in human form. Only the Administrator, the Matriarch, and the Patriarch remained in human form. But they were equally cursed, and could only watched as the expedition fell apart at the seams.
But this was a very, very long time ago. Who knows if the legend is true? It's not as if there's anyone still alive to tell it...
