Kinderdeckke
Oh, look at you, all grown up and leaving home!
You've got your Kinderdeckke, yes?
Remember, so long as you have your quilt,
The love of your family goes with you.
Kinderdeckkes are a traditional quilt given to children born of the Dalremian culture. fashioned from fleece, quilted panels, and scraps from the Kinderdekkes of their parents, the quilts not only keep the child warm against the harsh northern weather, but symbolize the strength and love of the family that has guided the family for generations.History
The Kinderdeckke finds its origins in the earliest days of Dalreme as a country. Refugees who fled north from the wrath of Agathodaemon found themselves in a harsh and cold mountainous landscape. While the refugees soon found a collection of hotsprings to build their new village around, the youngest of them were still vulnerable to the cold. The newly-named Dalremian culture soon learned to be sheep-herders of the wild flocks that dotted the mountains. Their wool was turned into any sort of clothing they needed, including blankets for the infants.
As time passed, it became apparent that the community was outgrowing its ability to provide for itself in abundance. Old clothes and blankets were re-used for the younger generations, and those that wore down too far were turned into scraps to make into quilts. By the time two hundred years had passed, the tradition had settled that a child's Kinderdeckke would be made out of scraps of the previous generations. Even today, a Kinderdeckke will have quilted squares from parents, grand-parents, and even great grand-parents. Older families have had 'ceremonial' Kinderdecckes that are hung on walls in a physical family tree. These are passed down to the oldest surviving son, or oldest surviving child if no male heirs are born.
Significance
The Kinderdeckke is a physical manifestation of one's family tree; proof of generations of Dalremians looking out for their successors. To lose a Kinderdeckke is to cut oneself off from one's family tree.
I... My Kinderdeckke was lost on the Night of Falling Crowns. Nana barely made it out of the fires with me. I don't know who my parents are. Just that they were warm and kind and loved me very much.People who no longer wish to associate with their family will purposefully destroy their kinderdeckkes, or a family will destroy the one of a family member who has been banished from the clan. This move is irreversible; even if the family and exiled reconcile, they will no longer be seen as part of the family tree. After the The Night of Falling Crowns, a small organization sprung up dedicated to recovering Kinderdeckkes from Dalreme Castle and returning them to the family in question.

Rarity
Kinderdeckkes are very common; almost every child born in the northern territories is given one.
Raw materials & Components
Kinderdeckkes are lined on the inside with a soft fleece. Its outer shell can be any number of designs and patterns, but they are always quilted with a piece of fabric from both the mother and the father's quilt. While it is tradition to build a new Kinderdeccke out of generations of old ones, at least two quilted pieces must be original, so that the tradition may continue on.
Beautiful, I love the fact that parts of plder quilts are used in the crafting of new ones.
