Emmett the Ekyl

A passersby in the streets of Poartlind finds themselves waiting at a tram station for a ride uptown. While they wait, they observe the myriad of advertisements and public announcements that have been pasted on the station wall. A large one catches their attention, posted in the center of the bulletin board. An Ekyl- wearing a little 'Soft-boiler's' hat and a goofy smile painted on their wide, gentle face- reminds citizens to be kind to the Ekyls during the predicted heat wave and conserve Ekyltricity use during the day time. 'Emmett The Ekyl Trusts You to be Safe!' the bulletin exclaims!   The Tram arrives, and the passerby steps on. But the face of Emmett follows them all the way home. That night, the Ekyltric lights are mindfully turned off.
Emmett the Ekyl is the mascot of the Poartlind Ekyltric Company, serving as its face for public service announcements across the city. Equipped with a 'soft-boiler's' hat, a type of protective headwear that the Ekyltric Power Company employees wear around the plant, Emmett reminds the citizens of Poartlind to be mindful of their Ekyltric usage, and to be aware if an Ekyltric device is nonfunctional and what to do. He is often joined by other members of what has lovingly been dubbed the 'Ekyltric Company'; Elliott, Emily, Eloise, Emory, and Edison. Together they cover the various aspects of Ekyltric safety, serving as part of the PEC's community outreach program.

The Ekyltric Company

The Ekyltric Company was formed in 1897 as part of a public service initiative to educate youths about Ekyltricity and how Ekyltricity could be very dangerous. Normal posters didn't seem to hold their attention or impart information. It wasn't until an artist hired to create the posters observed the children gleefully watching an Ekyl swim around in a tank that he conceived the idea of a mascot. Brooding season had just occurred, and there were several collections of pups nuzzled next to their mothers. Taking inspiration, the artist created the Ekyltric Company. The first poster, featuring a white-striped Ekyl named Emmett next to a metal wire, was a big hit with his daughter.   The Ekyltric Company, with six different faces, soon blazoned the streets of Poartlind. Citizens were enamored with the wide faces and innocent eyes of the Ekyls, and usually remembered the messages imparted by the cartoony posters. The pups were rocketed to stardom, and were soon given their own tank that could be seen by the public at certain times of day. Of the cast, Emmett was the most popular and outgoing, earning him the foremost spot in the posters. This outgoing personality carried into the comic series that soon developed, being the de facto 'leader' of the Company.

Love this idea. Great little article. Wish I could go see Emmett and the others in real life!
