Blumenkrone
Mama, Mama! When I grow up, I wanna be a blumenkrone! I get to wear the pretty dress and hand out flowers to everyone! Pretty please, mama?The Blumenkrone, the 'One who bears the Flower Crown', is the honorary Lady of Festivities for Spring festivals all over the twin Kingdoms of Ruben and Lazuli. It is a rather recent addition to the festivities; both countries sought to make the annual tradition 'theirs' after the The Night of Falling Crowns to prove legitimacy over their sister. Unfortunately both kingdoms had similar ideas... or perhaps the same idea inspired by the same person...?
Appointment
While the position of Blumenkrone is similar between both kingdoms, its details differ, often even between towns. Typically, though, it breaks down as thus;
It is tradition that the previous year's Blumenkrone is the one to crown the next Blumenkrone. Ruben's crown is made of red flowers, while Lazuli's are blue.1
Ruben
Ruben, being the westward and mostly land-locked of the sisters, holds a lottery per town for the honor of Blumenkrone. Young Lasses between the ages of 12 and 22 have their names put into the lottery. If a name is drawn, it is withheld from the lottery for future years until the lass ages out.Lazuli
Lazuli's ocean-bound shores have a more...competitive nature towards the selection than her sister. Potentials must prove themselves in a trifecta of trials, aimed at gauging a woman's skill at cooking, diplomacy, and grace. This being said, there is no age limit.Responsibilities
The Blumenkrone is the host of festivities for the Spring Festival, which has any myriad of names depending on the village. Most times this is overseeing the decorations, being the guest of honor at the spring dance, and any number of meet and greets between. She is expected to be kind, graceful, and demure in all situations.2
1In theory, that is. In practice, most villages in either country will use whatever seasonal flowers are available. 2Except the end of festival pie fight. Then all bets are off.
