Azure Estates
Yeah, the Commandant's working at a disadvantage; Regent Blackwood had a leg up on him by inheriting Cardinal Lodge. The man's turned the place into a fortress, or so I hear. Whereas over here we only had the Queen's family villa to work with. Lovely in the summer... on sunny days, that is.
Anyway, Azure Estates is going to be a match for Cardinal Castle in every respect once it's done. If only the Commandant would quit changing his mind on the details...
Azure Estates is the counterpart and counter point to Cardinal Castle, the ancestral hunting lodge of the Dalreme royal family. Where as the former lodge-now-fortress has decades of history behind it, Azure Estates is being built from the ground up as a memorial and testimony to the fallen Queen Lazuli. Elegant marble hallways, rich blue draperies, and classic art sourced from all over Dalreme in the name of 'preservation' after the Night of Falling Crowns.
The only catch is the Estates, even after seven years, are still under construction.
Purpose / Function
Azure Estates was built to be a memorial for Queen Lazuli, the former queen of Dalreme. More scrupulous members of parliament will also (regularly) remind the Commandant that it is also meant to be the new home for Timothy Dalreme IX, whose ailing health does not often permit him to leave the original villa. It is telling that, seven years after the plans were first drafted and ground broke, the Estates seem to have more stairs, balconies with thin railings, and cliffside views than the original blueprints called for. The Commandant calls for changes all the time, seemingly at a whim and driving the contractors-and there have been many-up the wall with frustration. They also become more grandiose as time passes, and the nods to the Commandant's rule become less and less subtle.
