Mundane Animals

Most animals that existed before the Cosmic Sundering now only survive in cities and populated areas, as the Mist is simply too foreign and tough for them. Either kept as farm animals, or surviving just between the reaches of cities and Mist in what little true wilderness remains, mundane animals are cherished and protected by many, as they are a reminder of simpler times, before the Mist.   The Cosmic Sundering also wiped out all insect life, though for a different reason; the full extent of this instantaneous extinction is not fully understood, but it is believed that at some point during the Cosmic Sundering, all insect life was taken down into the abyssal plane, beginning the slow creation of demons which emerged during the Unholy Crusades, explaining the insectoid appearance of demon-kind.
