Luzi of the Bees
Located on the eastern coast of Ynys, the Bay of Bees is named for the great number and variety of bees that live along its shores and on the many small islands within the bay. Humans have kept bees on this coastline for as long as they have lived there, and from their imaginations, as well as from the steady, collective thoughts of the bees themselves, a goddess has arisen. That goddess is known as Luzi of the Bees. She is the queen of hives, ruler of all the honey-makers and beekeepers of the Bay of Bees.
A Keeper of Beekeepers
While Luzi is not generally considered one of the most powerful of the Ellyll, she may be among the most beloved. She is a constant presence throughout the Bay, tending wild hives and ensuring that beekeepers themselves are well cared for. More than once, she has used her bees to summon aid to a remote cottage overlooking the sea, where one of her beekeepers required assistance, and all the people along the Bay of Bees know to watch the insects closely for any unusual behavior that might carry a message from Luzi. Her blessing makes the hives of the region more productive and their honey more nourishing, and those who care for the bees are said never to go hungry or poor. Her goodwill, however, is not endless. Those who neglect or mistreat her bees or her beekeepers soon learn that Luzi is not tolerant of such behavior, and that she is more than willing to send swarms of stinging insects to torment those who offend her.
Guardian of Guith
Luzi is also strongly connected to the island of Guith, the largest island within the Bay of Bees. This island, which those who love it simply call Home, is a blessed place, and it lies under the care of Mother Solace, the goddess of the Solennefrieden Lighthouse. Guith is a place of peace and safety, dedicated to offering a home to all who need one and to sheltering those who have lost their way in their own minds. While Luzi claims no dominion over the island itself, ceding that role to Mother Solace, she loves Guith and its mission and stands ready to defend it if need arises. She is also responsible for the creation of the famous Guith Honey, which has proven extremely helpful in the care of Solennefrieden's patients.
All ships bound for Guith are thoroughly inspected by the island's bees, and sailors know to let them search where they will and to offer them no harm. Some years ago, the bees discovered an agent of the Hleemeentreezee attempting to reach the island, hidden in the hold of a ship. The horse-thing was driven into the sea by the bees and vanished, and Luzi has been particularly diligent in her inspections ever since.
