Hunter
Hunters were magical constructs used by the Order of Balance to hunt void beings.
Though the exact ritual and mechanics to create a hunter have been lost to time, a record written by a high ranking member of the Order indictated various steps involved in the production. (Note: this entry refers to void beings as "shadows" and the bound man made entity as "shades/husks" due to lack of knowledge of what void beings were at the time.)
Three things must be prepared and fully ready before the ritual is to go underway- Collection of shadow essance: Originally the ritual had begun with the capture of a shadow creature, luring it into a prepared magical containment circle. Now hunters are able to return with the essense of their kills which helps us create hunters with much more ease! Mortal selection and preperation: When enough shadow essence is avalible for us, a target is selected. Usually there are plenty of unredemables to choose from, and unlike rot reavers, physical condition is not nearly as important. Once a target has been selected, they are starved for a couple of weeks. It seems the weaker and closer to death the subject is, the more likely the ritual will suceed! Often guards will further beat the subject nearly to death, furthering our chances of a hunter being created. Once they are deemed ready they are bound to a table and given a final prayer. Forging the Spectral Armor: The specially forged spectral armor is made from black iron and enchanted with blessings to allow the connection of husk and armor seamlessly. The armor becomes a vessel for the merged essences. Long metal claws are forged and attached to the armor via chains. These claws serve as a weapon for both mortal and shadow fleshes. Once all three are ready, the ritual can take place. The Binding Ritual: The dying host is branded with the symbol of the Order on it's forhead and chest with blessed bindings ensuring control and loyality. Four trained priests will simutanously utter the ritual prayer to Reus during the rest of the ritual. The host is then dressed in the armor set, and then forcefully given shadow essence. As the soul of the host is being destroyed by the shadow essence, a new form appears within the host, the shade. There is only momentary oppertunity to set the host ablaze, burning away both the mortal body of the host, and the last reminants of the soul before it is fully consumed by the shadow essence. Done too early and the ritual will fail, leaving behind only the empty armor, and the shadow essence lost. Done too late and the armor and shadow essence will decay into nothing and be lost. The Fire should turn from it's natural colors, to a blinding white. When the flame finally dies out, the hunter is born and stands tall, stationary, and ready to begin the hunt...
Basic Information
Anatomy
Hunters consisted of enchanted armor bound with an artifical soul or "shade" to it. They usually consisted of a torso, helmet, and two bladed gauntlets all attached to one another with metal chains. If the armor was damaged enough, the binded husk would fizzle and burn out, and the armor would quickly turn to piles of rusty dust.
Behaviour
Hunters were precise and very efficient. They would strike their target with unrelenting force and not give up the pursuit until either the target was destroyed, or they were.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Hunters were virtually blind and could only detect void beings connected to living things. They would usually remain dormant until a void being altered reality. They would then come to life and quickly phase to where the disturbance was.
Civilization and Culture
History
Hunters were made originally sometime during the mid 3rd era. Production was later increased in Whisper Tide Abbey during the end of the 3rd era.
Due to the alterations of void being reality shifts being so rare, hunters could spend years or even decades completely immobile and unmmoving.
