Giant

Giants were a race of humanoids found in Rodina. They were killed off by Kyrosian warriors and are believed to be extinct.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Giants stood tall at around 12-15 feet, but older giants could reach 20 feet tall if they lived long enough.   Giants could consume rock and have it slowly grow from their skin, giving them scales of rock for protection, as well as hardening their bones. This also allowed their bodies to scar over remarkably quickly. More than one report from Giant Hunters claim that Giants would remove broken limbs in order to escape or fight longer, and the resulting wound closes up in a matter of seconds.   Their faces were almost always recessed, leaving only an enlarged black hole. Most Giants were bald, but some had clusters of thick hair that grew from cracks in their hides.

Biological Traits

Upon death, Giants would turn to solid rock, a condition called "Stonefrozen". These Stonefrozen Giants can still be found in the Whitewall mountains and a few have been moved to parks and wealthy houses in Kyros as display.

Genetics and Reproduction

Males and females were almost indistinguishable as females did not grow breasts, and both had retracted genitales.

Ecology and Habitats

Giants had lived along the Whitewall mountains for centuries before encountering humans. Upon initial conflicts between the two groups, both quickly grew to despise one another. It is not fully known how the conflict started.   In the last days of the Giants, some had managed to escape to the Blackwall Mountains, but were quickly tracked by Kyrosian hunters and local Dwarven tribes. This is rumored to be how Dwarves and Humans discovered one another, though this cannot be confirmed.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Giants lived off of very little moisture, and subsisted on rock, meat, and vegetative matter. They were opportunistic hunter/gatherers that moved with their sources of food.

Behaviour

Giants traveled in large groups following where food was most abundant. They operated under the good of the group, rather than the individual. If needed, a group would sacrifice an elder or a wounded member in order to escape a threat.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Giants were often seen as animalistic, but they did forge and use basic tools for self defense. They did learn how to avoid traps set out for them after encountering them a few times.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Giants were said to have poor eyesight and relied on hearing and vibrations in the ground to navigate. There are claims that they were able to communicate with one another via grunts and moans.

Civilization and Culture

History

Giants were discovered sometime around 110 3e in the Whitewall mountains.   Upon their discovery quickly things turned violent between the locals and the Giants. Kyros sent groups of trained soldiers to fight the Giants, but were quickly wiped out by the towering figures.   Kyros spent time and effort studying them, learning their weaknesses, and eventually small groups of hunters formed to track and kill single Giants at a time. A Giant's head was brought to the Rex, shortly after which, he ordered 200 men to train as Giant hunters and to quickly kill them off.   Over 200 years passed, and for every giant that had fallen, 10 hunters were killed as well. Slowly the Giant's numbers fell, and by 350 3e, there was only a single group left.   This single group, consisting of only 14 giants, fled the Whitewall mountians for the Blackwall mountians. They they encountered new enemies, dwarven clans. The last giant was killed off sometime in 352 3e.   Since then, they are talked about in myth and legend, and travelers in the Whitewall mountains can on occasion find the stone remains of giants slain by hunters.

Historical Figures

Thr'Krrr'Kral was one of the last Giants to fall in the Blackwall mountains. He was the pack leader and fought and died protecting his pack. According to legend, it is said he was the very last Giant to die.
