Core stone

Core stones were originally quite a time consuming and expensive object to create.
Replicated ones made by the Order were cheaper to produce, but were easier to break and did not last nearly as long.

Core stones orbs were crafted by the Duran-gahl Empire in the 2nd era to be used for control and monitoring of morpholiths. They were imbedded into the head of the creature and allowed a user to see and hear what the host could. The orb also allowed the user to control the host via commands, as well as destroy the host and orb via self destruction if desired.   During the late 3rd era a morpholith was uncovered and later destroyed by the Order of Balence leaving behind a malfunctioning core stone which shattered into shards. The Order studied these shards and eventually repurposed them to be used in the monitoring of Rot Reavers. They eventually learned how to make more shards as well, but never uncovered the means to create a full core stone orb.   These shards were much less powerful with a much smaller range of visual and audio viewing. These shards also slowly would decay overtime, usually killing the creature that it was imbedded in.
