Regent - Settlement on the King's River

The village of Regent is set on the eastern banks of The King's River and is thriving.

Until recently, the only threats were the monsters upriver in the foothills which typically eat the grazing animals but when food is scare, they will occasionally threaten the village which has led to a sizeable portion of the population being armed and trained with the weapons of the blacksmiths to the south.

Industry & Trade

Crops and clothing are sent to the dwarfish settlement to the south in return for weapons, armor, and tools.

Infrastructure

The town's surplus is facilitated by water-wheels, windmills, and other technologies. Many of the resources used to build these technologies are obtained from the Dwarfish settlement of miners and blacksmiths upriver in the foothills to the south.

History

Recently, monstrosities have been found closer to the river and some reports tell of river monstrosities and west-bank monstrosities coming onto the east bank, which is unprecedented. These crossing seem even more common in the Blackgate Thicket and the Everfog Marsh further north so a team has been sent to establish an outpost and begin researching the area to determine what caused the anomaly and reverse it if possible.

Points of interest

The river to the west and mountains known as The Stoneshields to the south both appear to be deterets to monstrosities. Locals who aren't trained in the ways of magic typically believe that monstositires and beasts can be distinguished from one another based on which ones can cross rivers. Those in the know belive that this is an unexplained local phenomeon. Some belive the the mountain must be rich with diamonds, a substance that has been known to keep away monstrosities in some locales.

Geography

The village is on the eastern bank of The King's River. The King's River is a rough translation from either an Elvish or Sylvan name that some belive came from before The Shattering.
The port town/fishing village Marshaven sits at the northern end of the King's River.

Natural Resources

Villagers hunt the herbivores of the plains that are left mostly unchecked by the more dangerous creatures of the NAME THIS 2 marsh to the north. The monstrosities of the The Snarling Woods (aka Snarlwood) to the west keep their distance from the river, allowing for a forage-friendly forest. The river is seasonally stocked with fish. The seasons also bring flooding and agriculture.
