Thornwall Vale
The mountains that divide the lands of Aethelas and the south reaches of Quyrie-Ève are difficult enough to traverse without an experienced guide and ample provisions. What makes them impassable is the approximately 1500-1800km stretch of marshland where colossal species of briars and thorns have flourished. Amongst the endless peaks and gorges, one may spy the looming silhouette of arching roots and vines covered in enormous spines, knitted together in an intraversable labyrinth.
History
It is likely due to the hostile terrain of the Thornwall Vale that the kingdom of Quyrie-Ève was able to survive the Withering Plague that destroyed the empire of Aethelas in an event known as The Scouring of Aethelas. Plagued victims would have had a difficult time fleeing the collapsing nation and the barrier helped to ensure that few attempted it.
