25 - 07/14/25 : Slippery Trip
As the party prepared to take on their current goals, they first needed to stop by Arwyn's office get the scryed location of the hobgoblin hideout. With their course set on the stablewrights, the students started their journey, first to Adeline's quarry for her test from Raine, and then to the hideout where Ezri would find another card from the Deck of Many Things. Shortly after leaving town, they found that a recent rainfall had caused a mudslide on their path. With no way to circumvent this obstacle, the Book Club was forced to take a detour around their original path. As the day started to come to an end, the party encountered some suspicious travelers huddled over a large covered object. After questioning the travelers, the party eventually found that they had taken a large egg from some smaller monsters, and were debating what to do with it. Not wanting to be there if the egg's mother showed up, the Book Club decided to leave them to their fate.
The next day, the group noticed a single person moving oddly through a roadside graveyard. With concerns of possible necromancy in mind, Adeline urged the party to investigate. While the instigator seemed not to be a wizard, he was in fact involved in a necromantic ritual. When his actions were exposed, he started his summoning early and attempted to kill the party. The Book Club fought through the assassin and his horde of undead, leaving the realm safe from a would-be necromantic overlord. As the party moved on, they came across a lone homestead on the road, but decided not to take chances with strangers after their long battle.
The third day of travel went by peacefully, with the skies becoming briefly overcast. On the fourth day, the party neared Adeline's quarry and began traveling through the edges of the Great Saltmarsh. As they neared the known location of their quarry, the party ran into some local hunters who had accidentally broken a trap full of captured frogs. The party, save Ezri, assisted the hunters with recapturing their prey. In exchange, one of the hunters gave the party an old wand of Mind Sliver that had been passed down that he was unable to use.
Finally, the party arrived at the location where Raine had tracked a large monster for Adeline to hunt. After investigating the area, the came across the hiding spot of the mud covered monster known as a Barroth. While the large creature was intimidating, the Book Club succeeded in defeating the monster. With Snow's assistance, Adeline carved some useful parts from it to be used later, and the group continued their journey to the hobgoblin fort.
As the party neared the fort on their last day of travel, the Book Club encountered some hobgoblins scouting the nearby area. Getting the drop on them, they quickly routed the scouting party and closed in on the fort they had been seeking. As they approached it, Snow noticed some banners that had been vandalized, which covered over an insignia she knew as belonging to her old mercenary group, the Dread Raptors.
