23 - 2/7/22 : The Color of Right
In-game date: 23rd of Freyrmond, 3521
“You wanna know what my only regret is? That I can't do it again. That your precious little tavern didn't go up in flames along with everything I ever worked for.” - Urstul Floxin
The party finished their rest in Duhlark's old chambers and made their way to the section of the towers that they hadn't explored yet. Along the way, they awoke an alarm statue that yelled threats in Duhlark's voice, but did little else. They were also attacked by animated book swarms, which were defeated easily.
On the fourth floor they encountered Urstul Floxin, just in the middle of torturing Lord Orond Gralhund, attended to by a summoned Gazer. The party was quick to demand his surrender, to which Urstul responded by summarily executing Orond and preparing for battle. In doing so, he had transferred the fey death-debt placed on Orond by Reilly onto himself.
A brutal, heated battle commenced, with both sides being pushed to their absolute limits. Urstul's immense combat prowess and mastery over fire made him a formidable opponent, and the situation was only worsened by the summoning of several Clockwork Angels. Even with Yilani binding him, Urstul continued to erupt with flame and fire run amok, forcing Renaer to survive even more fireballs. In the end, the party's fortitude and clever tactics won the day, and Reilly executed Urstul personally to satisfy the fey debt.
In a nearby chest, the party found the green eye of Golorr and absconded with it. On their way out, they found a prison room, where Davil Cedarfall and a dead Tashlyn Yafeera we're found. Davil asked about the well-being of the other Black Network members, and was relieved to hear that both Skeemo Weirdbottle were both dead.
The party escorted Davil to one of his safe houses in the Southern Ward, where he swore to contact them soon. They also dropped off the green eye at the House of Wonder, with the intent of checking on it later after their business with the Xanathar had concluded.
Returning to Troll Skull Manor, they had a meager celebration with Fala, Zephyr, and Lif over their victory before retiring for the night, with more work to be done on the horizon.
Later that night, Veszaltyrr exited his extra dimensional sanctum and came across the ruins of his occupation of Maleficarius Towers. All he could do was note the absence of the Green Eye of Golorr and stew in a wordless fury.Portraits
The Red Spirits
Reilly Springs - A young, anxious satyr artificer and inventor, who has fashioned for herself a magic suit of armor that grants her impressive combat capabilities. Now free of the debt that hounded her, Reilly is committed to supporting her friends as she sets down roots in Revelmoore. She has taken to spending time with Fala Lefaliir, the serene gardener and proprietor of Aelbwynn’s Crown. Brooke Acropora - A charming water genasi and a native of Revelmoore, who supports the party with his keen intuition concerning the fanciful and fascinating goings-on of the city. Brooke moonlights as a contributor to The Targe, a broadsheets publication that seeks out the most interesting and sauciest news scoops of the day. Currently, Brooke is focused on ensuring that Troll Skull Manor becomes an unforgettable spectacle to its visitors, but part of his mind continues to be occupied by his tryst with the mysterious Zelem Corvo. Yilani Deniz - A severe, perceptive Yuan-ti Pureblood druid who once masqueraded as a human refugee from Khemit in order to gather information on the wealthy and powerful of Revelmoore on behalf of a Yuan-ti cult of Aapep. After coming to love the city and her new friends, Yilani has turned her back on her people and helped to drive them out of the city before their nefarious plans could be enacted. Yilani met Zelem’s offer for cooperation with paranoia and has taken measures to keep herself and her friends from the thief lord’s spying.Violet - A strange purple cat that was purchased by Brooke at the Old Xoblob Shop. For all intents and purposes, she seems to be a completely normal cat; save for the fact that her fur is a deep shade of violet. She told Brooke her story, revealing that she was once a human adventurer that was polymorphed into a purple cat by Halaster Blackcloak, the Mad Mage of the Undermountain. She appears to be more than happy with this situation. Róisín - A homunculus created by Reilly out of a mechanical skeleton, an enchanted crystal, and plants grown from feywild seeds. Róisín resembles a winged rabbit composed of plant matter, and is unfailingly loyal to her creator. Renaer Ambermantle - The estranged son of Dagult Ambermantle, the previous Open Lord of Revelmoore. A skilled fighter, an agent of the Masquerade, and a man of noble standing. Renaer faces scrutiny because of his father’s legacy, but still retains friends in high places. He has befriended the party and spends most of his time fraternizing with them. He was grievously wounded by a fireball aimed at a spy working for his father, but he managed to survive with only burn scars on his face, and has returned to the field with the rest of the party.
Veszaltyrr Oussndar - The mythic founder of the Black Network, who was thought to have disappeared over three-hundred years ago. An imposing, well-spoken dark elf with a left arm made entirely of brass, he radiates magical might even in visions. As he was tending to business in his personal pocket dimension at the time, he was not present during the Red Spirits' raid on Maleficarius Towers, and only discovered the wreckage that ensued after they had already escaped. With the Green Eye of Golorr gone and one of his most powerful lieutenants slain, his position in the Grand Game of Ambermantle's Enigma has been greatly weakened. Urstul Floxin - A grim-faced fire genasi with connections to the Black Network and the Gralhund noble family. He was once one of the Doom Raiders and a close associate of Raeziel Ramrider and Davil Cedarfall. According to Raeziel, he was the one who appeared to lead the secession of the Scions of Black Hearts from the rest of the Black Network, but in truth he secretly answered to Veszaltyrr Oussndar. After executing Orond Gralhund for his role in losing the Stone of Golorr, he made his last stand to keep the party from taking the Green Eye of Golorr, and was slain in the process. Although Reilly's vow of vengeance was fulfilled, Urstul remained spiteful and cynical to the very end. Orond Gralhund - The lord of House Gralhund. He was the head of the house by birthright, but following its downfall by the hands of Veszaltyrr and the Scions of Black Hearts, he was reduced to a mere coward desperately trying to escape his mistakes. For his role in instigating the fireball attack that harmed Renaer, nearly killed Jenks, and slew several bystanders, Reilly swore to take his life by way of a fey vow of vengeance. He was accosted by his former co-conspirators and detained by Urstul Floxin, who executed him before the party's eyes before Reilly could fulfill her vow. Davil Cedarfall - A retired sun elven adventurer and the leader of the ‘Doom Raiders’, a beleaguered sub-faction of the Black Network. After the Doom Raiders were scattered following Skeemo Weirdbottle's betrayal, he tried to lay low but was captured by the Scions of Black Hearts and imprisoned in Maleficarius Towers. He was eventually rescued and returned to one of his safehouses, but the party was too late to save his longtime compatriot Tashlyn. Tashlyn Yafeera - The master of arms and mercenaries in the Doom Raiders, Tashlyn managed the group’s weaponry and oversaw mercenary contracting. A tall and imposing woman of few words who exuded martial prowess, she nonetheless succumbed to torture and perished in the prison cell within Maleficarius Towers. Fala Lefaliir - A serene wood elven individual and the owner of Aelbwyn’s Crown, a multifaceted store that functions as a florist, apothecary, and greenhouse. They have befriended the party, especially Reilly, and gladly helps them when asked. They are growing increasingly concerned over the party’s predicament, despite Fala’s insistence that they not get involved. Zephyr - An excitable young bronze dragon who came to the party’s aid to strike back against the Devil’s Hand for killing her mother years ago. She is friendly, albeit a bit nervous in dangerous situations. To blend in better with society and not unnerve her new companions, she favors a human form clad in clothing similar to Reilly. Lif- A poltergeist and the former proprietor of Trollskull Manor. He was murdered forty years ago by the manor’s former owner out of jealousy for a girl he once loved. His spirit has remained in the manor, where he scared off intruders. After the party assured him that they wished to restore and reopen the tavern, Lif calmed himself and even aided in cleaning the place up. He has become very fond of the party and assists in their affairs however he can.
The Stone of Golorr A greyish-green ovular stone, about six inches long from end to end, with three recesses running vertically down its length. It is covered in a thin layer of ever-present mucus. With its second eye restored, it is closer to unlocking its vast repositories of hidden knowledge, and is now capable of revealing the location of its third, red eye.
