11 - 05/23 : Ringbearer
After returning to Fortune's Crossing, the party was invited to Corvo Manor where Zelem paid them and offered to answer any questions about their additional task involving Kraken cultists. Yunaleth was concerned that the town might be targeted by the cultists after two encounters with them, but Zelem assured her that the cult wasn't aware of the town's involvement in these incidents and that such cultists would always be found around coastal cities, if you know where to look. He mentioned that he found this cult group by having his associate, Ruven Torrel, use her powers to find them along the coast, as a preemptive measure to avoid interference from any such cultists. With their questions satisfied for now, Zelem gave them their next task, traveling to the Underdark city of Ironshine to investigate the technology within the abandoned lab that they learned about from the rescue deep gnome, Thwippleflit Mitnitelby. They would be joined once more by Enslo Branith, who had experience with navigating the Underdark after having escaped Drow capture.
Before dispersing, Zelem asked Draltha to stay behind for a moment. He informed her that the mines had been fully checked and cleared and the rights to them would be given to the Frostbrand clan as a whole. He informed her that the clan's unity in the face of hardship was something he valued and desired for the city as a whole. Then, he asked if she would defend the clan if someone tried to take advantage of the benefits it provided. Saying that she would, Zelem asked her to act as the clan's protector, and assured that if she felt that someone needed to be dealt with, he would help take care of it.
Afterwards, the party took the time to make preparation and entered the Underdark through the opening in the mines they previously found Thwippleflit in. Their journey included the occasional bumps, but they managed to stay on schedule. Among their days of travel, they had a few chance encounters. The first was an odd goblin alchemist named Professor Gadzooks who asked the party to test some experimental potions. Draltha tested Gadzook's Potion of Incredible Transmogrification, causing her to constantly shift into different animal forms for a minute. Naomi tried Gadzook's Potion of Draconic Visage, which turned her body into that of a dragon, but only one part at a time, with the transformed parts switching and shifting over the course of a minute before she turned back. Finally, a reluctant Yunaleth tried Gadzook's Potion of Magnificent Arcanary, causing her to cast random spells over the course of a minute. As thanks, he gave the party another dose of each potion and carried on his way.
As the party progressed, they were ambushed by a Derro who encouraged the party to take a ring from his sacred chest. Naomi volunteered and pulled a single ring out, claiming a Ring of Telekinesis as her prize. During their travels, they learned the ring was actually sentient and capable of speech, they claimed to be a magic item destined to make great heroes who had been worn by countless adventurers in the past. Naomi dubbed the ring RWBY for the ruby embedded in the band. Finally, they came across a dead Duergar wrapped in iron bands, but were able to determine that these bands were Iron Bands of Bilarro and were able to take them for themselves. The party has journeyed for several days now, but still has a ways to go to their destination.
