09 - 03/28 : Gofer

The party took off on their trip south to Saltmarsh, but made camp for the night at Chimeras Crossing. They discussed some questions and thoughts about Zelem with Sendra, with the only consensus being that he was a unique individual. As they party arrived in Saltmarsh, they decided to start with delivering some documents to the town's governance, Gellan Primewater. While waiting to meet with him at the Empty Net, they played a round of Bullsheart on the dart board. After meeting with them, Primewater took their documents and looked over them, seeming nonplussed about them, but thanked the party for their work.   After that, the party went to the Saltmarsh jail for their next task, picking some inmates to take into Fortune's Crossing's rehabilitation program, to work off their sentences. After arriving, the jailor, Thorar, seemed to recognize Naomi, but fell silent and pale when she told him that "The eyes watch at night." Sendra noted that the solitary confinement cell was occupied and learned that a tiefling had made an attempt on Primewater's life and was scheduled to hang. The party met some colorful prisoners, including one Spite Maleficarius, who had been arrested for attempted arson and apparently had a short romantic encounter with Yunaleth in the path, who was unhappy to see him. The party also met an unabashed assassin who worked for the highest bidder and an illusionist who was clearly only out for himself, both of whom were not prime picks for either the public rehabilitation program or as recruits for the Devil's Hand. They also met a Yuan-Ti woman who they surmised was Nessali's mentor before they fled their tribe, who had gone out on her own to find her pupil. Finally, they met Hammerhead Harkin, first mate of the pirate ship, the Megalodon. Most of the party was eager to free him, except for Yunaleth, and Harkin had no interest in working for someone else or betraying his crew.   After their interviews, Sendra stated that she wanted to stay the night at the jail to better understand their facilities. Naomi volunteered to stay with her, while the rest of the party retired to the Snapping Line. There, Draltha drank to her heart's content, Yunaleth sang war songs, and Chesterfield tried to use Naomi's secret phrase to discover a nonexistent secret society. Meanwhile, Sendra used a magic item to open the locks in the jail, as they had been replaced by Zelem, to free the tiefling in solitary and recruit him as well. She unlocked several doors, creating chaos for the tiefling to escape, with the rest of the party none the wiser. Spite also managed to free himself in the scuffle, stowing away on a ship he thought was heading to Fortune's Crossing, but was instead en route back to his home of Revelmoore.   The next day, the party finished their last task of delivering a package to the guard captain, Etmund. As they prepared to leave back for Fortune's Crossing, Yunaleth received a sending from Zelem, who had learned about a Kraken corpse washing on the shore along the way that they needed to intercept. Kraken cultists were attempting to claim it, leading Zelem to request that they not mention who they work for and that the party were free to use as much force as they deemed necessary.
