The group continued to explore the strange ruins and found where the pipes appeared to go. Neither had water flowing through them, so the group decided to open the rightmost valve to the north to see what would happen. Water quickly rushed to the strange device which whirred to life and seemed to activate the entire facility. The giant gears in the center room began to slowly turn, and life roared in the main room. Val ran to see what was happened and was assaulted by some abhorrent undead that appeared to have been freed from the nearby room.
A battle ensued, with the rest of the group rushing across the walkway to help her. These new foes proved less deadly than the large one from before, and after turning one of them Val picked the other up and chucked it over the railing into the lava.
One of the machines in the room whirred to life, and a Modron peaked its head out before frowning and leaving. It turned the portal off and departed. The main control console had also came to life, and activated some sort of security system. Deciding they didn’t want to find out what would happen from this, the group shut off the water supply and the facility shut down
The ogre, investigating what was causing the disturbance, was finally fed up with the parties lollygagging and demanding Valerie construct his suit of armor. The party went below, but before getting to work noticed a strange floating suit of armor in the next room. Unfortunately it was actually floating in a Gelatinous Cube, and after almost consuming Valerie the rest of the party scrambled to free her. Shane risked her own life by reaching in and pulling Val out, and even the Ogre rushed in to smash the thing that threatened his suit of armor
Finally Valerie got to work, spending the better part of a day repairing and reconstructing this strange Dwarven suit of plate to suit her form. On the back it appeared to have a slot that the power core could fit in, so after trying it on Theta used unseen servant to insert the core into the armor. With it at full strength, Valerie punched the Ogre and demanded the Kobolds fight for them. Deciding the party was scarier than the ogre, the kobolds jumped into action and the group rapidly took down the giant
With the ruins secured (mostly) some of the group returned to bring the rest of the villagers. Aubrin argued that they should dispatch the kobolds before the inevitable betrayal, but reluctantly agreed to not press the issue.
Now that everyone was gathered in the ruins, the group had a brief chat before Apple Slices pointed out that the vault below seemed to have a lot of zombie noises coming from it. Unsure exactly what to do, the group began to discuss the possible options moving forward
