06 - 02/16 : Birdseye
With the Peryton defeated, the party ducked into a nearby doorway to take shelter. Inside this room, they found a skeleton grasping a note, which turned out to be another Hermit Squid shelter. The squid attacked and was defeated, leaving the party to investigate the note and a chest in the room. The chest contained some gold, healing potions, and a drift globe, while the note seemed to be planning an ambush at a trap door. The party rested and then moved on to explore the area.
In another tower of the fort, the party found a storage of long rotted supplies, but found a message to Scarvosa concerned about the mutiny and several potions of water breathing. The party surmised that the captain may have had a secret hideout underwater, but decided to finish investigating the area. They traveled to the roof, where several Peryton had claimed territory. The monstrous birds attacked, but the party used the tower as a defensive position and defeated their aerial foes. At the end of the Peryton’s territory, they had piled up a mound of corpses with their hearts ripped out, but Yunaleth noticed some magic from inside the grotesque mountain. With much hesitation, Yunaleth reached into the viscera twice, pulling out a Cloak of the Manta Ray and a Crystal Scimitar. The party returned to the underground cave, where they were able to use their new information to find a trapdoor to a stairway leading underwater. Before investigating this path, though, the party decided to rest for the evening. Before falling asleep, Yunaleth received a Sending from Zelem, checking on their status, and she informed him that it was more difficult than originally assumed.
In the morning, the party distributed their means of water breathing and made their way underwater, into a large temple beneath the ocean with several statues of fish-like sea monsters placed near the walls. Eventually, the party came across several sleeping sahuagin, and Draltha took this moment of weakness to try and assassinate one of the sahuagin. While she managed to do massive damage to the creature, it didn’t kill him and the rest of the sahuagin resting in the area were alerted. One of the sahuagin swam to one of the fish statues, pressing something in it and causing momentary bubbles to spout out of one of the other statues near Chesterfield. The party was able to dispatch the sahuagin and their sharks and continued their exploration of the area.
