Types of Magic

Magic is said to originate from the moon Nealia, as a bond between the world and its people. There are different types of magic; some can only be used by certain people, while others can not be used by people at all. These types of magic can never be used or manipulated simultaneously.

Blue Magic

Blue magic is used by sorcerers, a manifestation of their personal willpower. It resides in the soul from birth. A sorcerer uses finger motions to channel their magic, drawing simple to complex patterns in the air. Some people jokingly compare sorcery with art, or learning to play an instrument. All sorcerers have an extra strong affinity for one specific element, but call learn all kinds of spells. Blue and purple magic have ”expiration dates”, meaning spells or enchantments will eventually cease and conjured items will disperse.

Purple Magic

Purple magic is used by wizards. Manually pieced together by writings, chantings, runes or the like, and then physically manifested within staves. These spells are consumed with use, meaning each one has to be manually duplicated or stored up. Its components reside in the air, and the wizard has to vocally command its release. Wizards receive staves from their academy until they reach the age of 25. After that, they craft their own staff which they use throughout the rest of their lives. Blue and purple magic have ”expiration dates”, meaning spells or enchantments will eventually cease and conjured items will disperse.

Green Magic

Green magic originates from nature itself and only affects properties of physical things (including plants). Unlike blue or purple enchantment magic, green magic is everlasting and follows a natural flow between the world and Nealia itself. There could be a magical flask that refills itself, or a sword that can cut through steel. Some of these things could be achieved through enchantments, but many green items are sought after for their rarity and status of being permanent, as well as some truly unique properties.

Red Magic

Like green magic, red magic is everlasting and cannot be manipulated. But this magic affects only living beings (more specifically, tied to their soul), and is the rarest of all types. For example, someone could be born with magic eyes that can see spirits, or a voice that puts people to sleep. Some associate this type of magic with curses. Someone born with red magic cannot be a sorcerer or wizard.

Chaos Magic

The result of combined magic. Thus, a mix of the properties of the other types - it originates manually, but cannot be manipulated further. It is unpredictable, unheard of, and presumably dangerous.
