Mithril

Mithril is a legendary ore found deep in a handful of mines across the continent of Dragonskull. It has many interesting applications, ranging from the religious to the technological, and even within the schools of magic.

Acquisition and Properties

Mithril in its natural form is found exclusively within very deep mines, or in some cases mines that find themselves delving into the heart of mountains. Mithril ore is very hard to extract and only a few cultures have managed to perfect this art, most famous among them the Dwarves, though notably also the Goliaths. The process of extraction involves the use of tools which are themselves made out of rare materials such as diamond or Blacksteel. The attempted use of any other materials short of the mythical adamantine will result in both in the breaking of the tool and likely the arm of the user, due to the unique magical properties of both mithril and the stone in which it is laden in its natural form. When one attempts to mine it without the proper materials, a unique magical reaction takes place between the mithril and silverstone around it resulting in a sort of magical redirection of the kinetic energy put into the swing. The other magical properties of the metal are not well documented, or at least publicly available, though the physical ones are. Physically, Mithril is both significantly lighter and significantly stronger than steel, making it a great material to turn into various kinds of armour or in rare cases even construction material, though it is not completely impervious. Mithrils physical resistance to any kind of change also gives it a deadly efficiency when used as a cutting material. Unfortunately however, it is just as difficult to forge mithril into useful items as it is to mine it.
Magically, it mithril is highly mysterious. What is known is that is has both magic-dampening and enhancing properties, depending on the way it was forged into its current state as well as the user, and possibly other materials that are near it.
