Summer Camp 2024 Prep

Week 1

Assignment 1

Consider what kind of changes would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.   The world of the Lihlsu Chronicles is drowning in major changes, and also minor changes. The story will be set two hundred years after a near-extinction level invasion on the Lihlsu settlement that forced the survivors to flee and build new homes in amongst a population of other species who they had previously had less-than-stellar relationships with. Two hundred years later, and the species go through another major change, when a group of Lihlsu rally the remainder of their species to retake the Lihlsu settlement and rebuild it.   On top of that, various characters experience minor changes, such as unlocking previously unknown about abilities, discovering more about their family, and forming romantic relationships.

Assignment 3

Get your categories and tags organised!   My categories are arranged into three overall categories: The Lihlsu World, which contains all sub-categories and articles about things relating to the Lihlsu species, such as their power system, and their deities; Supernatural Species, which contains all sub-categories and articles about the different supernatural species in the world, as well as the human species (subject to rename and Earth, which contains all sub-categories and articles about locations and countries on the planet Earth.

Assignment 4

Take a look at your meta, primer, and any other high-level document and update it according to the current state of your world.   Prior to this challenge, I had yet to actually fill out my meta, as most of my notes were written down on paper and I hadn't gotten round to actually moving them over to World Anvil, however my meta has now been updated and filled out accordingly.

Week 2

Assignment 1

Consider what kinds of refuge would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points.   Prior to the development of human settlements, most supernatural species lived in peace in the wild; however, since human society began encroaching on their territories in the pursuit of increasing settlement size, they have been forced to seek refuge in amongst the human population. Following this, several businesses catering towards supernaturals sprung up in human settlements, often with the purpose of providing a safe place for supernaturals to hide out in if they found themselves in danger; initially, this purpose was not a common factor, as most supernaturals felt safe in human settlements, however with the increase in corruption in the Council of Hunters, this has become more prevalent as more and more supernaturals have started being hunted without genuine cause or reason.   Meanwhile, the Lihlsu species have, over the many centuries of their existence, formed hidden safe spaces throughout the world outside of their ancestral home. These safe spaces either take the form of a safe-house (which often appears as a small house on the outside but is much, much larger on the inside due to Lihlsu magic) or as a safe-town. Safe towns are often found in forests or in open areas of countryside, and are cloaked to hide them from the view of non-Lihlsu - safe towns also take up very small areas in actuality, but utilise similar magic as safe-houses to make their areas bigger than they initially appear; what may appear at first glance to be a small collection of three or four buildings may, upon crossing over the threshold of the safe-town's boundaries, transform into a bustling town or small city. The locations of safe-houses and safe-towns are usually only shared among the Lihlsu, and most half-Lihlsu, even ones previously accepted in Lihlsu society, aren't aware of them or able to see them.

Assignment 2

Find a community--whether that's WA's Discord server, Facebook group, your RPG or friend group, or something else. I have a good social circle of friends who are aware of my worldbuilding, and my family as well, and I even have a friend who has been involved somewhat with some aspects of the worldbuilding who I can rely on to help keep me on track!

Assignment 3

Find ways to improve styling and layout in your world! I recently did a relayout of my world, and a restyling in terms of background, world cover and article covers, and gotten to a point where I'm happy with it!

Assignment 4

If you're a CSS wizard, maybe take the time now to give it a polish! Although CSS sounds cool, it is also very scary so I have not done anything with my CSS...

Week 3

Assignment 1

Consider what kind of beliefs would fit in with your world's themes, genre, and other foundational points. As the Lihlsu world is set in the modern day real world, just with the added feature of magic, superhuman abilities, and various supernatural species, most of the religious beliefs are in line with the religious beliefs of the real world. However, there are also the religious beliefs of the various supernatural societies.   Some supernatural species simply believe in one of the religious beliefs of the human society, however some species, like the elves, dwarves, faeries, merpeople, sirens, sorcerers, and the Lihlsu, have their own religious beliefs. The elves and faeries share many deities, and their religious beliefs are centered around the earth; dwarves typically have a few gods, mostly related to the earth, masonry and blacksmithing, however the names of these gods typically differ depending on which dwarven settlement one is in and is often a point of contention between the different settlements; merpeople and sirens share similar religious beliefs, both believing in the same two deities, however they have opposite views on which deity is the one to be respected and the one to be shunned; sorcerers believe in a pantheon of deities relating to the schools of magic that they practice, which each deity being a patron of one of the schools, and that school primarily worshipping said deity but also the other deities to a lesser extent.   Meanwhile, the Lihlsu have two sets of religious beliefs - the guilds of the Shíhyí Cohak'í and the Nyé̃mosh believed in what they called the Ellian gods, deities of a long-lost human civilisation that had built settlements on the Lihlsu's ancestral island prior to the arrival of the Lihlsu's ancestors, and the guilds of the Cídyi Íshlak'í, K'evihdíha'da, and Rídya'da instead worship the deities known by the Lihlsu as the Nyklaie, physical manifestions of the elements that the Lihlsu manipulate and who bestowed upon the first Lihlsu their abilities. The existence of the Nyklaie is not disputed by the Shíhyí Cohak'í or Nyé̃mosh, both of whom accept that they exist and that their powers come from them, but they don't choose to worship them or recognise any of the festivals in the Nyklaie's honour, apart from the one honouring the day that the Nyklaie first created the Lihlsu, and the one honouring the births of the first Vialaie - the leaders of the Nyé̃mosh who are the biological product of a Nyklaie and a Nyé̃mosh Lihlsu.

Assignment 2

Create a bank of inspirations! Quotes, music, description of experiences and shower thoughts, etc.   I typically have a writing playlist filled with music that tends to get me in the mood for writing, particularly writing for the Lihlsu Chronicles but also any piece of fantasy fiction. I also have many pin boards on Pinterest filled with pins of quotes and aesthetics that have inspired me.   Below is my writing playlist!

Assignment 3

Find art and pictures that inspire you, and grab a map if you don't have one (and need one).   As stated above, I have several pinterest boards full of art that often inspire descriptions of locations and buildings that I have started developing notes for to put in the Lihlsu Chronicles. As for maps, I am a long-time user of Inkarnate, and have recently updated the main map for the Lihlsu's ancestral island, and I'm currently working on maps for the districts of the ancestral city!

Assignment 4

Check your inspirations again. Are they still relevant? Can you find any that better represent the current state of your project?   My writing playlist hasn't been updated in a while, and could use some cleaning up, but my pinterest boards are regularly added to and gone through and are up to date!
