Tome of Meridon
Everyone in Tordronnen has at least heard of the Tome of Meridon, even if you don't have faith in the Gods. It's considered a rare magical item, though some think it's just a book with a cool story attached to it. It's meant to be an artefact of Meridon of the Dusk and Dawn, the God of Balance and one of the Triarchy.
It's very important to the belief system of Tordronnen, regardless of whether you believe in the magic and stories attached to it. In its open state, it is said to maintain balance across the country, and without it there would be anarchy. It travels around the country, spending a year in each city before moving on to the next one, as part of its belief systems. It is ridiculously valuable.
The last time it was in Osthaven was nine years ago. It is arriving from Korstan in a week, and will be displayed and presented during the Ashonmoot. Next year, it will be moving on to Verodeen.
We've been tasked with stealing it by Stevelle Owen, leader of the Jolly Men. It's Magpie's fault, he gave her mine and my brother's codenames thinking that we wouldn't be in the city before the deadline. Normally we aren't. But this year... things didn't quite go as normal. And so, here we are.
Mechanics & Inner Workings
If it has magic, it's probably Divine in nature.
History
The book is supposed to be a relic of Meridon of the Dusk and Dawn, but I'm not big on theology, so I don't know much about the history. I do know that it travels the country, and that it has done so for a very, very long time.
Significance
If you're a believer... this is something extremely important. It's said that closing the book, or preventing it from making its rounds, will cause anarchy in Tordronnen.
