Overview

Fizz lingers on the curved blade longer than he should.

Now that—well, it’s more than a trinket. Found in… well, never you mind about that, I need some of my own secrets. Some magic, too. Worth a good price in the right hands—or maybe a fair trade, if you’ve got the right offer. What do you say, Vex? Your seal, your call.

No maker’s mark. No inscription. Just a sharp-edged scimitar with a gem in the hilt that never seems to catch the same light twice.

Properties

• +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls.
• While attuned, you cannot be surprised while holding the scimitar.
• You have advantage on initiative rolls.
• Once per long rest, you can cast Detect Magic as a bonus action from the blade.

Owl’s Eye Gem

Set into the hilt is a smooth, dark gem that resembles an owl’s eye when it glows.

• When any Vigilance ability is used, the gem blinks open, casting a faint light.
• If the eye is covered or damaged, the blade’s magical abilities cease functioning until it is uncovered or repaired.

Magical Signature

A successful Arcana (DC 14) or Insight (DC 16) check reveals a faint, watchful aura—not hostile, but hyper-alert. As if the blade is... keeping an eye on you. Not judging. Just ready.

“Traders’ luck,” Fizz says, when pressed about it. “Maybe it’ll rub off on you—if you’ve got the wit to keep your eyes open.”

Attunement Notes

This blade bonds easily, but only to those who value awareness over aggression. A reckless wielder may find the gem dimmer... less willing.

• Some claim it was part of a pair, with its twin lost to the Underdark.
